Gurus - I am getting feedback into my Saffire XE external sound card when trying to record from my computer. If I use the external mike to record it is no problem. The folks at Saffire told me to mute Sound Forge during recording or to tell Sound Forge to not use the same channels for record/playback. I can't seem to figure out how to do any of this in Sound Forge. Any help you can give would be great. |

Wait, so you're trying to record audio from your computer (like a website or something) by looping one of the outputs from your Saffire LE (I'm not aware of any XE that Focusrite made) into one of the inputs? You need to make sure that the outputs you use for sending the computer audio are different than the ones you use to monitor recording in Sound Forge. Or just turn monitoring off. Rob. |

Rob - Yes I am trying to record audio from websites. I have the correct cabling on the Saffire to do that. I was told by Saffire tech support that I need to mute Sound Forge to eliminate the feedback loop or, as you said, I need to have Sound Forge use different inputs for recording and monitoring. Where do I go in Sound Forge when I am recording to turn off monitoring? If that does not work, how do I tell Sound Forge to use different inputs for the recording and monitoring. This is probably pretty basic but I seem to be missing it. Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. |

What version of Sound Forge are you using? It should be a check box on the record window that says, "Monitoring" or "Monitor." Just make sure it's unchecked. It's the outputs that you would need to change if you don't want to turn off monitoring. Depending on what version of SF you're using, you can change them in a couple of places. You can go to Options--Preferences--Audio--Playback tab. Change the outputs to something other than the outputs you're using for the computer feed. For example, if you've got the cables for your computer audio coming out of your Saffire from outputs 1 and 2, you would change the SF playback to 3 and 4 or 5 and 6. Anything besides 1 and 2. This is just an example, as I don't know how you have the cables run. The easier way is just to uncheck monitoring. R. |

Hi Rob - I am not sure this is the way to correct things but it finally worked. I used two approaches - the one you suggested with regards to turning off monitoring and I turned down as far as possible the input mix on my Saffire Control Panel. Thank you so much for your suggestions. Finally after fussing with this forever, I am getting clean sound both internally and externally! Thank you again for sticking with me on this.
