How do you get rid of the Express FX's if you don't want them? I have a lot of DirectX plugins and I never use the Express FX's, infact I can't even see my FX1, FX2, and FX3, that I originally had on my system since these express FX's have been installed. I'm not even sure when they got installed. It must have been during an update of Vegas or Sound Forge. I just want to get rid of them, it makes it tough to find the plugins I use more often.

Thanks,
Brian Franz

I couldn't figure out how to get rid of them either, so what I did is create a new folder in the FX dialog box and drag the ones I don't use into it.

You may have already done this. If you find a way to get rid of them entirely please post it.

Thanks for the advice, actually I haven't tried this. I was worried they had a registered file path and if I moved them I would get errors because they couldn't be located by windows DX registry.

Ok, I figured this one out. Vahblah, thanks for the info. Moving the effects to another folder only works in Vegas, the problem I was having was with Sound Forge. Here's how you can remove them.

1. Goto where you installed Sound Forge 5.0 to and then goto the sub directory SHARED PLUG-INS/AUDIO.
2. Move the files sfxpfx1.dll, sfxpfx2.dll,sfxpfx3.dll to a temporary location.
3. Now open up Sound Forge and attempt to use Express FX.
4. It will say that it cannot find the plugin and then will ask you if you want to continue loading this plugin in the future....select NO.
5. Sound Forge will now unregister the plugin, do this for all the Express plugins and then restart Sound Forge and it will no longer appear in the DX menus.
6. If you actually want to keep some of the Express plugins, you can probably select to not unregister that particular plugin and then move back all of those DLL's into the AUDIO folder.

I did this, and magically the plugins like my DSP FX's plugins reappeared, because Sound Forge only has a 3 and 1/2 column limit to the amount of plugins you can have installed. Sound Forge decided for me a long time ago when I installed it that their "express plugins" where more important than my DSP FX's highend plugins that I paid for, and got rid of them for me.

Thanks for the support SF :-)

Brian,

Sorry I couldn't post sooner to help you out. Aside from the method you describe, there's actually a very nice freeware program available that's specifically made to manage DX plugins, ie, change default params, delete, etc. The address for download is:

http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/dxman.htm

Freeware + Functionality = Goodness. Enjoy yourself.
