I'm A producer. I work out of CT and i hear a lot of complaining on this site. i have always used this sight in hoping of hearing whats next for acid since 2001. I understand the frustaition of you guys here. We never get any hints on whats going on with the products which in honestly is not a good look on Sony’s part. I am always hearing it from my partners and associates to go to ProTools. But I have used this product for so long I know it like the back of my hand. When I use other products I never understand why their layouts or shortcuts are the way they are. I am very thankful for this Sony product. This is supposed to be our community and if we are not happy we shouldn’t start off a convo with reason why we hate certain things. Point out what you want but also point out what you like. And I find it hard to believe some of you guys are professionals by the way you carry on. If by now you don’t know how Sony works go kick rocks. I don’t agree with the way they do business but if you really want to find out about what’s going on, pull a rep aside at a event and speak to him one on one. He wants to say something but can’t say much. What I got out of a rep at an event was yes there will be a pro 8, but will it be called pro 8 is the question. That all I wanted to know was some reassurance that they were actually working on it and I got it. Now for a date of release, no clue. But we the professional consumer must know how to communicate with Sony. For me going to events and talking to reps one on one works for me. They give enough so I can look forward. Sure other products come out with new versions every year. Hell ProTools just came out with 10. But I’m not concerned with it. I really just want an epic update. I go to war for my acid pro and I think Sony needs to know this with their customers who do. This is not intended for most bedroom producers ( I was there for 10 years I earned mine). This is for those that want to see sony compete against the lead DAW’s out there. And I have no ties with Sony. They piss me off just as much as the next man. But I’m willing to let them know I need them to step up as nice as possible. The reason this is my first post is cause I been too busy working on my craft with acid pro. |

"What I got out of a rep at an event was yes there will be a pro 8, but will it be called pro 8 is the question. That all I wanted to know was some reassurance that they were actually working on it and I got it. " Fantastic. Now as long as your rep was on the level - it's all good. But seriously - I think a lot of us would love this possibility of a new update to be a little more visible and reliable to be believable. I have been racking my brain and cannot think of any reason - competitive or otherwise - why Sony cannot say - when asked "Is a new version of Acid is being developed?" And simply say yes or no. They need not say anything else or offer any other morsel to the masses. Certainly this cannot do any harm or expose any trade secrets, plans or competitive "one-ups" in any way shape or form. Adobe has done this for years as had Apple - the two most secretive companies on the planet. But saying absolutely nothing at all for months and months (even years) can so easily be misconstrued to imply only one thing - No. And it does nothing to build any excitement or even get people to stop around here to see what's new. If nothing is new - well - in the end - no one comes around. VP |

"...What I got out of a rep at an event was yes there will be a pro 8... Highway" Very interesting... What "event" was it? What year was it? Was it an actual Sony Creative Software employee or and Independent regional rep who interfaces with retail outlets? Do tell. Message last edited on10/24/2011 3:54:36 PM bysodbuster-ca. |

It was New England Music Seminar. they were giving away Acid pro and vegas pro as the prize for a music competition. i didn't come up to him screaming and complaining. i struck a convo and once warmed up asked a simple question. he said what i posted. |

Man, that's wonderful! An actual SCS employee told you, last week, that a new version of ACID Pro is in the works...cool! Aside from that...I saw a real interesting developmet. Sony purchased a full-page advertisement in the November 2011 "Keyboard" magazine for ACID Pro 7. The marketing theme is "Alternative Fuel". Something is going on. Otherwise, they wouldn't be spending money on magazine ads. Message last edited on10/27/2011 11:04:24 PM bysodbuster-ca. |

"Sony purchased a full-page advertisement in the November 2011 "Keyboard" magazine for ACID Pro 7." How does buying space for a three year old app translate into "something is going on"? Could be they just want to try to keep whatever possible interest is left in AP7 going for as long as possible...? I would think spending money on ads would be par for the course for big operations like SMS....? VP Message last edited on10/28/2011 10:39:42 AM byVocalpoint. |

I would think spending money on ads would be par for the course for big operations like SMS....? VP" True...so true. It's all just speculation...that's obviously what they want. They're trying to re-kindle the 'ol ACID "buzz". Its working...sort of. We're talking about it. (I have to admit, I find the whole affair mildly entertaining). Their marketing strategy is certainly different than some of the other manufacturers I've seen. Will it translate into new sales? Who knows? It's not likely that they'll get another nickle from me! I bought Studio One Artist at Winter NAMM 2011 during they're $20.11 sale and recently upgraded to Studio One Pro v1 for $99.00. In the next few days I'll be upgrading to S1 Pro v2 as well. So, AP7 is my last version of ACID unless they give me a free copy of the new one if/when its released. (I won a free copy of Vegas Pro 9 at Winter NAMM 2010 so, you never know). Look, you know there's no technical reason why they won't just say "We're working on some great new features for our next release". The fact that they won't say anything tells me that this "strategy of silence" is what they believe to be their best approach right now. Time will tell. In my travels around various music forums, it seems that there is a general lack of interest for ACID these days. I heard one Plug-in manufacturer refer to it as "a toy". Back in 1998, when I first saw it being demo'd by Sonic Foundry at Winter NAMM, it was the only game town for PC loop making. Not so much, now days. The ads...what do they mean? Something? Nothing? Who knows? The only thing we know for sure is that AP7 is still for sale...at least at the Sony store. Amazon.com has 7 copies left. Other stores are showing "Temporarily Out Of Stock". So, the speculation...the whinning...the pontificating...the narcissistic fanboy cheering continues. |

Another data point to add to the speculation game: MusiciansFriend.com is advertising ACID Music Studio 8.0 as a "Best Seller". What does that mean in general? What does that mean for the future of ACID Pro? Who knows? People see what they want to see based on their own biases. American retailers have taken the art/science of marketing to such a high level that some use it like a fine tuned machine. And the ignorant masses break-out their check books & credit cards.
