I'm trying to clean up things in my DAW.I have so many saved, auto saved and restored tracks then I know what to do with.My problem is ,is if I delete them, and then go back into my recorded projects, some of the tracks have the "media offline"message so Ill have to go back and restore everything from the recycle bin (which is so full because of fear of losing stuff for good)just to get the tracks back.Is there a way to get rid of the clutter without getting rid of your work??? Thanks Marc.

One of the best things I can suggest is to make note of what was used in your project by putting your recordings in the same folder as your "ACD" ACID projects. This will isolate your recordings on a project-by-project basis so you know what material belongs to what project.

(To do this, go to Options > Preferences > Folders on the menu bar, select, "use separate defaults for each type of project media save, then select, "<Project>," under, "Record." Be sure to always save your project in a specific folder first before you even begin recording.)

You can clean up projects by using Tools > Remove All Unused Clips on the menu bar but note this will not delete the actual file; it will just delete the reference to that file (like listing it in the paint clip selector in the track list). You will have to track down the actual file on your own.

It might also help to write down what file is what or simply typing it into Notepad or similar note-taking app (like Evernote). I know it's not elegant and takes more time but it will save you headaches later on (like now). Be consistent with file names.

For existing projects, you will have to track down the files needed for each project (quick way to do this is to right-click the clip in question and select its properties; it should tell you its location under the general tab). Move the file to a centralized location as suggested before and just point ACID to the file when it asks.

I always save my projects as Acid zips when they are done, then you can safely delete anything afterwards, as all media is copied into the zip.
