Probably your best bet will be to really compress your voice. It'll require experimentation, but you should probably try working with Wave Hammer (via the Effects menu). If you have a previous version of Sound Forge, go to Effects -> Dynamics. Again, this will be largely experimental. For more information about mastering and compression, check out this site. |

There's no real engineering techniques for doing this, I've recorded these people in the past. It's their skill, some of us where blessed with strong, broad, dynamic voices. These people get paid large amounts of money, for having these monstrous sounding voices and is how they make a living. The only processing that I would have to do is add a little compression and a little reverb if needed. Many of these people smoke heavily to get there voice that rough edge also, so I guess the best thing you could do is take up some heavy smoking habits. In simplist terms, it's a talent, thus their occupational title "Voice Talent". Regards, Brian Franz |

rednroll is correct about "big voices" being a talent/skill. He is also correct on the smoking issue, though I urge you not to take it up if you are presently a non-smoker. I was trained as a broadcast announcer/commercial copywriter many years ago, before switching over to video production. Was blessed with extensive one-on-one coaching from a long time Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) news reader. You can improve your delivery, timbre and resonance on your own if you practice. Email me at psburn@home.com if you want the names of the text books I used way back then and still refer to today. peter burn, smoker and sometime voice over artist. |

It also helps f you're seated on a warm chair. I worked as an announcer for 30 years. |
