Subject:Too Many Activations? What???

I'm a beta tester for Microsoft and just came off the WinXP beta. During testing, I reinstalled the OS many times, as well as reinstalling my applications. This included Sound Forge v5.0 (b and d). Now that the beta is over I switched back to Windows 2000. I did a clean install and reinstalled Sound Forge. I went to activate it over the internet and got a "Too Many Activations" error. Say what? I paid hard US cash for this app, and I have a right to use it! You mean to tell me that from now on I'll have to call to beg and grovel for permission to use a program I paid for? Or worse...will I have to pay to be able to use it again (and you know I'll never, ever do that)? I've got an e-mail into support about this, and I'll wait 24hrs. before I call, but has anyone else run into this? How has Sonic Foundery handled it for you? Those of us who tested WinXP told MS that the activation in the OS was a load of crap, and now I can't believe that I've been bit with it in an app I use. SF, activation has *got to go*! What am I supposed to do now? - Dave |

Wait for your email. I had the same problem for the same reason testing XP, but it was resolved the next morning. There is a note about this exact issue in the FAQ section at the following link: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/registration/faq.asp?faq=40#936 |

What is the point of a registration process like Sonic Foundry has unless there is a limit to how many activation codes you are allowed? Sonic Foundry is neither mean nor malicious. They are just trying to protect their software, and why shouldn't they. If you call the 1 800 57 SONIC and are nice they can care of this for you in a matter of minutes. -DiscoKaK |
