In preparation for VP11...which CUDA card?

I have some money budgeted for a new video card which I was going to buy since mine is a few years old. I use AE a fair bit (and am just about to upgrade to 5.5).

The question is, I've always opted for ATI because...er...that's what I've always bought. No particular reason really. That said, it seems like SCS definitely has a bias toward Nvidia's stuff, and the video demo someone posted featured a Quadro of some flavor.

I could probably swing for a Quadro 4000 (I'd go for the PNY version), but has SONY actually published a hardware compatibility list for VP11? Will they? Beta testers? Anyone?

You ain't gonna get a reply from BETA testers, as they'll be under NDA agreements with SCS. Unfortunately, I don't think you going to get a response from SCS either. We're in September, SCS have said a Fall-release if nothing has been said by now I'm guessing we wont know until the leaves start turning crimson and gold!

Having just upgraded my Vegas Pc-kit, I'm loathe to invest further on a video card that will cost the same again? I have to say I'm not with this wait for smoke coming from the SCS chimney to determine where I need to budget to get the best from what appears to be a substantial, DNA change to the Vegas engine.

Hey, but what do I know?

The good news: where I live, the leaves are turning crimson and gold (mostly gold). It's autumn...which makes for fantastic night riding (on the road or mountain bike - here's hoping the snow doesn't fly any time soon).

That said, I figured as much. I've always liked Cakewalk's approach: here's the hardware we'll happily support...anything else, get familiar with the forums.

I guess the clue was that the demo featured a Quadro card. I could spring for a 4000, but a 5000 is double the money, and that's just not going to happen on my budget.

Hopefully SCS provides a little guidance when the new version finally drops. The preview engine has always been, in my view, Vegas' achilles heel. I can comfortable work around most other issues, but the preview...sheesh. VFW is so...Win XP.

agree wholeheartedly....

can't see myself spring for 5k video card, heck, for that i can probably now buy a betasp online suite ;-)

i'd probably go for 500.00 on a card, but it'd really have to prove it's worth.

Oh well. I was going to say just get this card and be done with it. But I guess if you already have your mind made up ... ;-)

I would like to see a 3D model or video project (or a game) that maxes out that card.

When I purchased my new i7 system a year ago I invested in a Nvidia GTX470. It ain't a Quadro, but, I'll let you know how it fairs when VP11 comes out.

If the performance and/or stability of VP11 on Windows 7 64bit is similar to what it is now, oh ! I'll let you know all right ! I'll probably bail if it is.
