Ungrouping

GillenFamily wrote on 9/26/2001, 12:50 PM
If I add an avi file to the timeline, audio & video move insync. If I group events and later ungroup them the individual audio and video are no longer in sync. Why?, am I doing soemthing wrong? After ungrouping I am able to go back and regroup just an individual scene, although it seems there must be a better way.

Thanks for any help,

Julie

Whenever you ungroup, your audio/video are vulnerable to any editing you might do, even if you just nudge one of them a bit. That's probably how things got out of sync. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something?

Thanks for replying. It sounds like that is just the way it is. I have read some post from the past and having tried many other applications, I DEFINATELY like VF the BEST. It would be nice for them to give an option, though, like GG suggests so we do not have to re group each individual scene. Major pain. At least I know I did not do anything wrong.

I'm not certain what particular goal you have in mind when you ungroup your video/audio, but, I have found that, when I need to work on one independent of the other, it works best if I insert a track (say an audio track, for instance).

I then, temporarily ungroup the main audio/video, cut the audio section in question, select all on the original audio/video track, then paste the revised audio section into the new audio track. That allows me to work on the section in question without danger of disrupting the sync on the original track.

Since VV allows unlimited tracks, I find this method works best for me, and most of my inadvertent mis-syncs are now history.

Hope this helps.
