Cakewalk's Plasma does Acid loops, has a killer synth built-in, a loop generator, and a full audio multitrack all fully integrated. $39 street. |

Both of the programs mentioned are very cool, but my recommendation is work with what you have first, get comfortable with that, then move to the next step. Acid and Soundforge are great tools to learn the basics and premise behind cutting/editing loops and samples. Using the mentioned programs may prove to be frustrating unless you first learn the basic about editing. From my viewpoint, and what I find to be a welcomed challenge is taking the loops that you have, working with them altering them and creating new sounds out of old ones. It may take you time to learn the process, but I think the long term benefits will payoff for you. I'm a firm believer in working with what you have before incurring cost for additional software. Remember each artist works within their skill level before moving on. If I were to recommend the next step, Fruity Loops would be that recommendation, but challenge yourself with what's in front of you first. good luck, Maninblac4 |

If, as you stated, you want a synthesizer to "make your own sounds", neither Acid nor Fruityloops has such an animal. |

You could get a moderately priced midi keyboard, perhaps a used Yamaha CS2X (although it's menus can be a little complicated) off of ebay for a few hundred dollars. Or better yet, an old Korg M-1 Wavestation. Nice, deep, killer tones. Good luck! |
