Does anyone know how to make a musical piece sound "softer" with SF 5, without loosing its punch or clarity? I create the basic tunes in "Band in a Box", then convert them to MIDI and then to WAVE files, then I edit and finalize them in Sound Forge 5. I have recorded many songs in professional studios and the end product always sounded soft, transparent, yet clear and still powerful. I know that SF 5 is not a professional studio, but I'm trying to get as close as possible. Thanks for any valuable input. Wolf |

Work in high bit depths like 24, 32-bit. After all the work I have been doing in digital over the years I know that working only in 16-bit is bad. Too bad so many people still do it. Anyway, Accoustic Mirror has an impulse that emulates analog tape. You can download it from the SF website as the "misc files". You'll have to play with the settings but Accoustic Mirror is better than plain old reverb. |

This *might* give you the sound you want: Click on Process then on Smooth/Enhance. Experiment with settings from -1 to -3 (Smooth) to see if the sound you seek is produced. You'll have to Normalize your volume level again when you are finished Smoothing. |

But smooth/enchance is just equallization. You probably DON'T want to EQ to smooth things out. Accoustic Mirror of reverb would be better. |
