HI - I have a new velocity pc http://www.velocitymicro.com/wizard.php?iid=193 the onboard audio is coming out of the motherboard.. everything plays fine when editing or listening to music but when I want to record .. no sound.. I tried every possible configuration but at start up a prompt tells me that there are no creative audio products that support or running the system that support ASIO,,, do I need to go out and purchase a creative sound card for the sound forge or audio studio to record off the pc.. I am stumped that this will not work.. I even went into the control panel and checked connections and deivces and everything is right.. ( it defaults to Microsoft Mapper ) any suggestions |

The solution to your problem can be found here in the knowledgebase. Unusual for this to appear on a brand new machine though - it normally occurs when a Soundblaster card has previously been installed and has then been removed and replaced by another soundcard (because removing the soundblaster drivers, etc, in the normal way doesn't remove it properly and leaves most of it behind to interfere with the rest of the audio system). Hey Mark. Thanks for the reply.. I am wondering if it is because the audio driver on the motherboard does not support Asio. I checked the knowlege base and will do that.. however.. how can I record off my Pc.. before when I had my old computer and had a creative card.. which supported Asio,., I had no issues.. what do I have to change to be able to record directly off of my pc.. when I go into preferences it gives me options of Microsoft sound mapper, and Direct sound mapper.. for recording it is the same.. Yet when I hit the record button.. nothing happens. and the left and right bars do not move.. when something is playing in the background. any ideas? I tried all the configurations |

You appear to have two issues, which "may" be completely unrelated. If you have a stray set of Creative drivers on your system, but no soundcard to go with them, and that is causing the message, you need to remove the stray drivers. Having ASIO drivers alone does not ensure you will be able to record from an audio source being played back on the PC. This ability has been disabled by default in many onboard audio systems since Vista. You will need to investigate to see if there are older drivers for your onboard audio that will support this, or look into a third party software that will enable this capability on your new PC, something like "Virtual Audio Cable" or "Any Sound Recorder." when I got my new velocity I did attempt to install the new Creative THX sound card.. http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Blaster-Titanium-Internal-SB1270/dp/B0041OUA38 but then unistalled it becuase I was using it mainly for headphone monitoring and could not tell a difference.. so I uninstalled the card.. I bet your right.. something is lost somewhere.. because when the card was installed I could record no problem from the sony audio studio and sound forge.. Interesting that now the defaults say microsoft sound mapper.. and it is rejecting it. |

"when I got my new velocity I did attempt to install the new Creative THX sound card.. " If the drivers won't uninstall from Add/Remove programs, boot in Safe Mode, open Device Manager, and uninstall everything related to the Creative sound card. I knew there was something you weren't telling us . . . Message last edited on9/11/2011 1:51:59 PM bymusicvid10. |

OK, that makes sense now - as I mentioned earlier, removing the soundblaster drivers, etc, in a "normal" way leaves most of them behind to interfere with whatever subsequent audio system you choose to use. But if removing the remnants of the drivers from the registry as described in the knowledgebase article I referred you to earler are not sufficient to resolve the problem then you will need to research things further. Best of luck. Mark |
