I finally have dedicated my system to win2k instead of the multiple boot hell I used to have. So, I really want to make sure my system is running optimally however I noticed right away that, although it claims no conflicts, just about every piece of hardware I have is sharing IRQ 9. Is this bad and if so, how do I change it? I can't imagine that having my network card, my firewire card, my Delta1010 and my SCSI card all sharing the same IRQ isn't causing performance slowdowns. any advice would be appreciated. Charles. |

That's Win2k's IRQ sharing. If you have no ill effects, I wouldn't change it. There is a way to, tho. It'll change your computer from ACPI to a standard computer, you'll have no advanced power features, tho. Go to the System Properties dialog,(Control Panel)->Hardware->Hardware Profiles->Copy to copy the current hardware profile, just in case.... To update it to a 'Standard Computer', go to Device Manager->Computer, right click on the Advanced Configuration...select Properties->Driver->Update Driver->Next->Display a list...->Next->Show All... select Standard PC, and finish this. Reboot. Your computer will find 'new hardware', so you might want to have the win2k CD around, just in case. This will change the action of the pc, you'll no longer have software power off (or hibernate) so when you shut down windows, you'll have to hit the power button, instead of it shutting itself off. ljp |
