I am a DJ. I use sound forge to record my mixed cd's. I use the master out on my mixer (rca to 3.5mm mini) to my mic input on my computer. I can only put the master volume on my mixer on two at the most. I'm sure I should be able to make it louder. Is there an automatic gain to kick in when recording. Can I manually turn it down so I can increase the gain on the hardware end of the connection? Most programs do have one, I just can't seem to find it in Soundforge!!

Your setup is wrong. You don't want to plug into the "Mic" input of your sound card. You want to plug into the "Line in" of your sound card. Your mixer puts levels out at "Line Level"....which is about 8 times louder than "Mic Level", thus the reason you can only turn your mixer up to "2" instead of "11" where mine is at.
