Hi,

I've got a Sound Blaster card in my PC, and finally need to record some stuff through a microphone.

I opened up my Sound Forge software, plugged in a microphone, created a New file, clicked record, talked into the mike, but nothing happened.

Where do I go from here?

I have a website with my poetry on,
http://website.lineone.net/~anthginn/
and I'd like to add recordings of the poems, to give the user the option of listening to me read them (how modest).

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. This is new territory for me.

Thanks,

Anth Ginn

Open your S.B. mixer. On the left side in the red column you will see your recording options. select 'Microphone'

Plug a Les Paul into a Marshall Stack, add some screaming distortion, drop a hit of acid, stop being a wussy and rock your ass off.

This advice comes from my Al Jourgensen (ie Ministry) school of thought, and if you don't like this answer, then the world is a better place by not telling you how to record your poetry.

Not everyone has had their hotrod built by Jesus, Rednroll. :)

Anyhoo -- AJW, try this:

Make sure your microphone input is activated. You can change what input is being recorded by opening Volume Control (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control).

In Volume Control, choose Options -> Properties, then click the dot so that "Adjust Volume For" indicates Record instead of Playback. Make sure that all options are chosen in "Show the following volume controls," then click Okay. The window should now say Record Control, and this is where you will choose what device (and volume level) will be used to record. Make sure your microphone selection is "checked" and your mic is inserted in the "mic" input on your sound card. You may even want to "mute" all other options to cut down on system noise.

Hope that helps.
