I know we all get all hung up on pixel counting and resolution levels. I met Sebastian Junger this past week where he spoke about lessons learned during his experiences with soldiers. He and Tim Hetherington filmed "Restrepo," a documentary of footage in Afghanistan. (Tim has sadly been killed since in Libya.)

I asked Sebastian what cameras they used; he stated that he used the Sony V1U and Tim used the Z1U.

Their film won Grand Jury Prize at 2010 Sundance for best documentary. It was nominated for the 2011 Academy Award for best documentary. All on 1440 x 1080 HDV.

It comes back to what many here often mention... the story. If you capture footage that no one else has captured, or tell a story that no one else has told, people will want to watch.

Thanks for sharing, we just recently just watched this and really liked it. Its cool to now who's out there using similar tools and creating great content.

Along the same lines, Iraq in Fragments was filmed in DV (!) on a DVX100. Great film, great images. One thing I noticed though, was at the end, there were very few production credits EXCEPT for colorists in post production. Hmmm, I wish I had the resources for that team after we are done shooting!
