Subject:What is proper/safe way to get back to 5.0b from 5.0d?

Hello, all. I'm not having fun with 5.0d (which is a separate topic altogether) and would like to go back to 5.0b. I've tried retrogrades before and have completely messed up Sound Forge(resulting in an embarrassing phone call to our I.T. department which led to a much needed re-install.) Needless to say, I don't want any trouble this time....I just want my 5.0b back. What is the proper and safe way to do this? All I see is 5.0d in "Add/Remove" programs. If I remove it through that will 5.0b just re-appear? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. - pup |

You should be totally safe doing an uninstall of 5.0d using the Windows Add/Remove Programs control panel, then just installing 5.0b clean, entering your serial number, and registering. You will be able to use your previous registration information if you still have it on hand. Hope this helps. |

pup: I followed the path laid out by natem and had no problems with the reinstall of 5.0b. FYI: I had an email from Sonic Foundry about the 5.0d problem and the email indicated they are "looking at the problem." I *assume* that means they are attempting to solve it. They weren't able to duplicate the problem, as you hadn't in your first post in response to my plea. |

Thanks, but where do I get the 5.0b exe file again? I no longer have it, and I can't seem to find it on the Sonic Foundry website anymore. Am I supposed to save all the exe files when I download updates? - pup |

Hello, Sonic Foundry programs create install folders on your hard drive you might see it there in C:\Program Files>Sonic Foundry Setup>Sound Forge 5.0b, Then run the exe. file right from there See ya, Rockit |

My usual practice when I download software is that I fill up a folder on my hard drive and call it "To Burn". Then once that folder get's acumulated with about 200 Megs of software I burn it to a CDrom and label it. This method has always worked for me and gives me a backup CDR that can not be accidentally erased. Throw it in a folder some place and forget about it until you need it like if an upgrade has more problems than the previous version. I still have copies of Sound Forge 4.0 and Vegas 1.0a and none of it is sitting around on my hard drive wasting space. CDR's are only about 25 cents each now, so there should be no reason to back up your software. This method also saves you if you're OS locks up and you have to re-format and reload all your software. It's just good book keeping and looking ahead to try and avoid problems. I'm sure someone at Sonic Foundry can help you, if they can't then send me an Email at Rednroll@hotmail.com and I can burn it onto a CDR and mail it off to you. |

"jgalt" and I seem to have a similar problem with 5.0d, if you care to read his earlier post. I, personally, kept getting spiked glitches and clicks (that didn't exist before) with simple copy and paste maneuvers over highlighted sections of audio - 16 bit / 44,100Hz. This never happened with 5.0b. I edit spoken dialogue, and I copy/paste/overwrite a lot. I'm told that Sonic Foundry is "looking into it." - pup |
