ACID 6.0 crashes on me constantly. It's getting to where I simply cannot do anything with the program for any amount of time. It crashes when I hit the spacebar. It crashes when I zoom in or when I'm adjusting a volume envelope. It even crashes in the background when I'm using Sound Forge to edit a wave or using some other application. I've even left the program alone a few times, only to come back from a break and it's crashed. If it crahes with a wave open that I am editing in Sound Forge, I cannot save that file in any way, even if I've already closed ACID. I have to reboot, losing all the modifications I've made to that file. In the instances where I cannot click the X to close ACID and have to resort to CTRL+Alt+Delete, it always shows two instances of the program open and not responding. All of this even when I have reformatted my hard drive and re-installed all my applications with the latest drivers and updates for Windows. I have never had a problem with ACID before. After five versions, this is the first time. I guess I'll be going back to version 5 after I post this message. I don't know what other information I can give other than it crashes often, and a lot. |

Have you tried calling SMS technical support? It appears that you have some severe technical issues that need to be worked through. A benefit of being a "registered" ACID "Pro" 6 user is that you get 60 days, of free telephone tech support (the Gold Plan). This 60 days only starts once you offcially activate it. It seems like you need to go ahead and activate the plan and get some professional help: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/support/technicalsupport.asp FWIW, I have ACID Pro 6 installed on multiple computers (my desktop & laptop) and I have very rarely experienced any crashes. I certainly can "never" recall ACID Pro 6 crashing doing such mundane tasks like, zooming in, adjusting volume envelopes, using SF to edit files or just crashing after being left alone for a period of time. It is all very weird! Good luck, Billy Buck |

BB: Thanks for your reply. I will be giving Sony a call shortly. I should have added in my earlier post that the crashes are intermitent, and that not all of the actions I listed will resort in a crash. However, since I often and repeatedly use those actions, crashes do occur often, if that makes any sense. |

I just resolved a problem I was having with another application (non-Sony) and thought I would pass this along since the crashes seem to be happening when you are manipulating the GUI and that’s exactly what was happening to me. I noticed from your profile that you are using the latest nVidia Forceware v91.31 drivers on your BFG GeForce 6800GT OC graphics card. So was I with my MSI 6800GT. I decided to load the drivers that were provided from the manufacturer (MSI). They were quite old (nForceware 76.45) but I figured what the heck, it’s worth a try. As soon as I load the MSI drivers all the crashing stopped! I realize it’s nice to always have the latest and greatest drivers but if your hardware manufacturer didn’t certify that they work with your card, you are taking a gamble. You might want to load the graphics drivers from BFG and see if the crashes stop. ~jr |

JohnnyRoy: I tried going back several driver versions, up until the version that came with my graphics card, but I still got the crashes. I had to google the drivers since BFG links directly to nVidia's site instead of having drivers of their own. Should I go back even further? I may do that, but first, I'll see if 6.0b will fix the problem. Thanks for your help. |

An update on this issue: ACID is still crashing on me...constantly. On top of this, I just built a new machine with a new processor, video card, RAM, and hard drives, AND reformatted my machine, re-installing Windows and all software, and it's still crashing. However, there is something new I've noticed when it crashes: It only does so past a certain zoom-in level, the level that slows the track view down to an aching crawl. I guess I'm going to have to go back to verson 5.0. |

No information diaglogues; just the option to send Microsoft an error report. Sometmes, I can click the X and close the program. Other times, I need to press CTRL+Alt+Del. When I do the latter, it always shows two instances of the program under the Applications list, both listed as "Not Responding". After a crash, I can also no longer save any WAV files in Sound Forge that ACID was using at the time of the crash, nor can I delete any temp files/folders being used by ACID until I reboot. I've had this problem ever since I purchased the program and have reformatted three times since. I've tried the suggestions in this thread and searched other threads for a solution, but nothing works. As I am very accustomed to frequent crashes now, I've noticed that it ONLY happens when I'm zoomed in past a certain level. Past this level, everything having to do with manipulating the GUI slows down to an aching crawl: scrolling, copying/pasting, moving envelope points around, even a delay in pausing/playing, whatever. Maybe that's some kind of clue. I dunno. I certainly hope something can be worked out, as this version of the program has become useless to me. =( |

Could you click on my name here on this msg and send me an email. I would like to get some more information and a little tool that could help us determine what's going on. Thanks Peter |

I'm still getting the crashes, even after installing 6.0c. I just don't get it. I guess I should go back to version 5. Still frustrated here... |

We can't explain this and it appears to be unique to your particular system. The information you supplied me showed a specific issue that we corrected. You have the utility I sent, so please send me the dump for the problems you are having. Did you uninstall ACID 6.0b before installing ACID 6.0c? Please, provide details as to exactly how you cause the crash. Peter |

I did not uninstall 6.0b before installing 6.0c. Let me try that first, and if I'm still crashing, I'll send you the dump file. Thanks. |

Been working with 6.0d ever since it came out. This particular problem seems to have been fixed. So far so good...knock on wood. Thanks to the guys that helped me--both users and the Sony guys. It's like having a large growth removed. I am still curious as to what the cause of it was. |

This specific problem has returned. I've found that deleting the SFK files that Sound Forge 10 creates (and allowing ACID to redraw them itself) remedies the problem. However, if any of the files are subsequently reopened in Forge 10, using them again in ACID slows things down. I remember there being a fix before, but one of the recent updates to Forge 10 has forced the problem to return.
