Recently I saw an ad in a "Best Buys" circular advertising SF 5.0 for $129.00...I couldn't believe it so I went and looked for it...yep on sale for $129.00, reg $149.00...ver 5.0 with all the upgrade software....this is the same one that sells on this web ste for 399.00...having paid close to that for ver 4.0...100.00 to upgrade to 4.5...and another 100.00 to upgrade to 5.0, I feel cheated. I think that at the very least all registerd users who just upgraded to 5.0 should get credit towards two Acid loop libraries or a 100.00 gift certificate from Sonic...what do others think? Any opinions as to why Sonic is letting Best buys sell SF 5.0 for so cheap? Just...MHO |

I have to agree with you on this one. I purchased SoundForge5.0 online two weeks ago for $350. Just last week I saw it at Best Buy and felt ripped off by Sonic Foundry. Most retailers have 30 day extensions to their lowest advertised price guarantee. I think Sonic Foundry owes me a little refund. Here's Best Buy's "In-Store Price Guarantee" as it appears at www.bestbuy.com/infoCenter/Policies/Payment.asp#5 In-Store Price Guarantee If, within 30 days (14 days for computers, monitors, printers and notebooks, camcorders, digital cameras and radar detectors) of your purchase from Best Buy, you find a local competitor offering a lower price on an available product of the same brand and model, we'll refund the difference plus another 10% of the difference. Bring us verification of the lower price, plus your original Best Buy receipt to claim your refund. Does not apply to special, bonus or free offers, and in California cellular phones and pagers. Does not apply to products with special financing offers. For complete price guarantee details, please see a customer service representative. We reserve the right to limit quantities. See store for complete details. |

It's a new marketing strategy by Sonic Foundry. If you lower the price, you get more customers and you cut the compettition. Now, if they would get a clue, get off their a$$es and resurrect CD Archtect... |

I think the easy answer to this is that Sonic Foundry is trying to increase sales and reach a wider range of users. They clearly stated that the direction of their software was to be the leader of web based streaming media tools. In doing so, a customer who is using Sound Forge for streaming media purposes is not going to buy Sound Forge for $399, like a pro audio user would. Unfortunatley you were probably one of the pro audio users. A streaming media user does not have a use for CD architect, like a mastering engineer would, thus "why invest resources into a product, when it is not the focus of companies direction?" I think it's pretty easy economics at work here. You can't make ALL the people happy ALL of the time, but you can make Most of the people happy Most of the time. I think Sonic Foundry would rather be viewed as the Mc Donalds of audio software and sell 1 million copies at $99, rather than the Digidesign of the PC side and sell 100,000 Copies at $399. Just my thoughts, Brian Franz |

You also have to remember too that Best Buy, being a retailer, can charge anything they want for anything they sell. That's why it's called a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). Iacobus |

Well you people who bought SF5 off the website instead of Best Buy dont have to feel as bad. I just went there and not only is it not on sale for $129, its not even the original regular price $149. Someone put an end to that, its now a more comparable $199. On top of that I think I remember seeng an original 4.x to 5 upgrade price of $99 just a while ago. Its now $149. missed the boat, er, many boats |

I got SF5.0 off the website at $99 when it first came out because I downloaded the beta version. |

Yeah, Beetle, I know that whole CD Architecth thing really bugs you. And probably rightly so. But as far as the Best Buy thing goes, I feel ticked cause I paid the 'full' $149.99. Maybe if I can find my receipt, I can get that extra $20.00 back and use it as a down payment for the $297 (or whatever) for NR 2.0. heheheh sk (aw shoot...I found the receipt...10/09/01. Actually, at the time I bought it I thought they had mismarked the boxes, considering the SF on-line price. Best Buys had 6 boxes on the shelf - 2 with the $299.00 price and 4 with the $149.00 price. I thought to myself: "Hmmmm...which one should I get...." Yeah, right. It was such a good deal that even though I have issues with some aspects of the program and the support, it's pretty tough to beat at that price any way you look at it. But it sure can alienate folks who paid more than twice that much on line, that's for sure!) |
