I am trying to record a streaming file from a RealPlayer site using Real Player 8.0 and Sonic Forge XP 5.0.

I seem to be able to create the file if I open the stream, then open Sonic Forge and record. The problem is that when I try to play back the file ther is nothing there.

Can anyone help?

You're going to need to set your sound card up to record its own output. Usually this is called "Wave Out," and on Creative cards, it's also known as "What U Hear." You can change what input is being recorded by opening Volume Control (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control).

In Volume Control, choose Options -> Properties, then click the dot so that "Adjust Volume For" indicates Record instead of Playback. Make sure that all options are chosen in "Show the following volume controls," then click Okay. The window should now say Record Control, and this is where you will choose what device (and volume level) will be used to record.

Also, I believe if you upgrade to the non free version of real player it has a "record audio" feature on it. Personally I try to avoid any software which has the name "REAL" attached to it. My system has always done nothing but crashed religeously everytime I've installed real player. So I guess upgrading to the full "real player" is kinda like paying for problems.....well hey...some people are masocistic like that.
