Hello: Longtime Vegas user, new to ACID. My son and I want to record to ACID Pro 7 with a Roland drum set (MIDI output) and an electric guitar. I know I need an interface, but have no idea where to start. Suggestions? Thanks, wikksmith |

fwiw, you want to look for any usb (or firewire) converter that has analog and midi ins / outs in your price range. I personally have motu and m-audio interfaces. it will be easier to provide direction after you've made that decision. |

Thanks for the reply. I was planning to record to a netbook running Windows 7, 32-bit, and then copy the files to a desktop. So I guess USB is the only option. I see that some low end units are USB 1.0: is that sufficient bandwidth for decent sound? Budget: $250. Any specific suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Donald |

USB 1.0 would be fine if you plan to record digital audio one track at a time. Still, I'd go with FireWire if I could just to get rid of the bandwidth headache. They're not cheap though. (The AudioFire 2 from Echo typically costs under $200 for two 1/4" I/O, S/PDIF I/O and MIDI I/O.) Iacobus |

I highly recommend that you do not get a USB 1.0 audio device. USB 1 had many problems that could severly affect audio i/o. Peter |

Far too many times I've tried to save money and bought a lower end model thinking it would be enough for what I wanted to do. Then later down the road, I ended up not being pleased with my purchase, thinking I should have just spent a little more for a higher end product and avoided the headaches. Granted I don't know your intent or financial situation, but treat it as an investment and don't be afraid to spend a little more for what you really want. Have you taken a look at any of the Presonus products. I have two FirePods (aka FP10's). I've been really happy with them. They have a product called the AudioBox USB. Sounds to be right up your ally. Has midi in and 2 dual-purpose front-panel input channels (XLR and TRS). Here's the webpage for it: http://www.presonus.com/products/Detail.aspx?ProductId=53 |
