i get the error "An error occured while starting playback. Unable to mix audio. The operation timed out." when either playing or rendering in acid 3.
this is the newest ver of acid 3 and i am running an athlon 600 mhz with 640 mb of ram. midiman audiophile 2496 soundcard.

i only get this error when opening "complex" songs, ie: more than 4 disk based tracks. of course, in acid 2 i could load these all into ram and it would never skip or give errors with 50+ tracks playing simultaneously, but in acid 3 the limit seems to be 4 on this athlon 600. on my friends computers, a p4 1.5 and a t-bird 1.4 the limit is around 5 or 6 tracks simultaneously.

i don't even care about the fact that it won't play for more than 3 seconds at a time, if only it would render! does anyone have a workaround for this?

Have you tried track bouncing just the Beatmapped tracks together into one ("Ctrl+M" on your keyboard)? It might work. Just be sure to get the tracks the way you want them and solo the ones you want to mix together before bouncing.

You should set them at "0.0 dB" for volume before bouncing as well.

Sad to say but I get this error as well even though the release notes for version c indicate it has been fixed. I gets better with each patch, but still not completely solved yet. Funny thing is, I don't get the error in Acid 2.0 There's always next patch.

Have any of you tried to install the update by itself, i.e., do *not* patch your current version? Uninstall the older version and then install 3.0c by itself. Be sure to delete any folder residue afterward. Also keep your serial number handy.

Hello,

Do you have a VIA Chipset on your Mother Board You can find out by right clicking my computer select properties and then device manager click the plus sign on System Devices and down to the bottom of the list you will see a few Via items.

I haven't read the many other replies in this thread because I'm not too interested in the specifics -- but I have a general kind of solution that may or may not be mentioned here.

A lot of us (computer users) are expecting our machines to do two basic roles: protect itself, and be a performance machine. I have determined they absolutely cannot do such a broad role change successfully. Namely to protect itself a system needs as many as four constant-on monitors of the system. One of those may be keeping a complete log and BACKUP of every single event that occurs in the machine. This is obviously incompatible with a performance task in the first place. Especially when you are underpowered and are not aware of the particulars to work around.

At this point in computer evolution it still is necessary to put performance first, and protection first. But even a brilliant tech guy can't do that with the same machine. You can improve your situation a bit with a whole string of precautions, but there is more you should be doing in both areas, than you can ever do. Remember as Machines evolve, so do their tasks. Therefore it is reasonable to have a special purpose machine dedicated to A/V, and one for a rich configuration -- the thing you put more time into.

If you have a via chipset, make sure you have the latest drivers- many threads about this on the Vegas and VF forums.
