Subject:Smaller File Size When Render to New Track

Hello, This is for the program "ACID Music Studio 7.0". I am using the Tool "Render to New Track..." to change an audio file from stereo channel to mono, as well as changing the file format to .wav (it is necessary for another program I am using so it can use the audio). This seemingly works, however the process results in the .wav file being 22.5 MB / 1.95 MB = about 11 times larger than the original (.ogv) file. This won't really do well because I will be using multiple files and the end result at this rate will be over 100 MB, which will be problematic (upload/download issues for a server). Is there a way to reduce the resulting file size, or is this just normal? Or, can someone recommend a program that would simply change stereo audio files into mono and in .wav format? In the past I have experienced the same massive ending file size with other works, such as editing .mp3 files (i.e. mixing). Additionally, the bit depth is only 16 for the changed file and at a frequency of 40,100 Hz. Much appreciation. EDIT: I think I found the solution: when rendering, lowering the Sample Rate will reduce the quality (file size). Message last edited on6/13/2011 1:29:43 PM by5hassay. |

The audio in the ogv file is compressed. When you render to new track to wave, the file is going to be standard uncompressed PCM data. Lowering the sample rate will decrease the size, but also lower the quality much more than using a compressed format. Depends on your desired results. You could take the rendered wave files, and render to a compressed format like mp3. You are not gaining anything by going from ogv to wave, so you should consider this. However, remember that uncompressing and then compressing will diminish the quality for each pass. Peter |
