Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone would care to discuss their midi arranging procedures in acid pro. I've recently changed the way I handle midi tracks to a more traditional method. Previously I would render a stereo track for what was entirely midi. I did this because my computer is not powerful enough to run all the midi and audio tracks that my songs require (Obviously this required careful mixing if I wanted it to sound even remotely close to a finished mix...which reminds me of the comments of Les Paul where he would work backwards with his sound-on-sound machine.)

So by "traditional" I mean the simple process of one audio event per track. And what I'm doing differently now is to split the (kitcore) midi drum track into its individual parts (one stereo file containing the drum performances and then duplicate that track as many times as required to get all the individual parts I need.) During this process I naturally thought, "how cool and much easier would it be for the program to render out individual parts instead of going to all this trouble." But if it was capable of doing that then a midi piano track (e.g.) could be rendered with all of its individual notes... which would be a trip :) But there's nothing I can see that allows this. Could this be a helpful addition to acid pro 8 in your opinion?

KitCore allows assignable outputs for each element so you can mix them separately. Right-click KitCore in the Mixing Console > Insert/Remove KitCore Outputs and add as many outputs as you want. Then click each cell in the kit and assign that element to a specific output under "global pad settings".

They will, of course, not be rendered out separately as digital audio when it comes time but you have complete control otherwise while in ACID Pro.

Notation programs like Finale export MIDI as separate tracks for you to use in a sequencer like ACID Pro. (For example, a standard string ensemble (violins 1, violins 2, viola, cello and contrabass) becomes 5 separate MIDI tracks in ACID Pro. Finale even assigns any expressions like crescendos and decrescendos in the MIDI file itself so that when you add them in ACID Pro, the volume is adjusted accordingly.)

Thanks for the helpful info.

I regularly make custom kits with the procedure you mentioned. And you're right they are not rendered separately. I guess it's a double edged sword because either way I'd have to set up each individual track before or do as I'm doing now and just copy the track in delete what I don't need (a process which is still annoying).

I wonder if SCS could still implement that feature and not infringe copyright?

I don't think it would be a problem copyright-wise; I believe Sibelius (which is Finale's competitor) does something similar with regards to MIDI export. That's in the context of traditional notation though.
