Subject:Rewire issue

When I click on Rewire tab in the "insert soft synth" option, I don't see the Steinberg piano plug-in I just installed onto my hard drive. I could be missing something simple as I'm a relative novice with this stuff--but are there some additional steps I need to take after installing the Steinberg software to make it operational as a soft synth in Acid. I'm using Acid Pro 7.

Which Stienberg plugin?

While some Stienberg plugins support ReWire, the best approach is to use them a VST Instruments.

Is this the Authorized Steinway from Garritan? That's a VST. (It has a "standalone" mode too but that's, of course, by itself. Really no point in running that and ACID; just run it in VST plug-in mode instead and reap the benefits of ACID.)

Thanks. I'm using Steinberg The Grand 3 (NOT the Garritan Steinway). While I have it fully installed on my hard drive, I'm not seeing it as a soft synth option. Nor do I see it in the plug-in manager (even though the Steinberg application is fully installed on my hard drive). Thoughts/suggestions? Feels like I'm prob missing something obvious, but not sure.

Oy, I need to slow down. I misread "Steinberg" as "Steinway." Sorry about that. lol

According the website for the Grand 3, it should work via ReWire or as a VST plug-in. First thing I can think of is where is the actual plug-in DLL installed for the Grand?

when you say "where is the actual plug-in DLL installed", do you mean where on my hard drive? answer there is it is in a file folder off the C drive. When I try copying the file into my Acid Pro plug-in manager, I get the message "none of the files dropped on Acid could be opened".

You want to add the folder where the DLL is located into ACID's Plug-In Manager. (e.g., if the DLL is in a folder at your drive's root, then it would be "C:\Vstplugins".)

You can, of course, add a folder using the "Add" button under the VST configuration window. Remember to press the "Scan" button once the folder is added.

Warning: do not set ACID to scan c:\ or any other broad search range. This will cause you undo grief, and force you to reset your ACID plugin search manually.

Good grief--I think that's exactly what I did. Ugggggh!!!!! How does one go about resetting the ACID plug search manually? I can't even open Acid Pro now--the loading screen freezes at the "Loading SyncUICoreLocalized.dll" step. Any further help much appreciated. Thanks Peter (wish I had read your post earlier...)

Consult this post. Look for Peter's post about midway through the thread. Should get you sorted.

Thanks. There is no directory on my hard drive with the following path:

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Sony\ACID Pro\7.0

There is a C:\Users\<user name>\ directory, but no "AppData" file off of it. Also did a system search for "AppData" and "acidpro.plugincache.xml" and nothing shows up. I'm using Windows 7. Thoughts?

I think that the folder concerned is "helpfully" hidden by default by Microsoft - you may need to enable "show hidden files/folders". As well as PCH's post referred to above, you can find this sort of information in the knowledgebase, specifically this article.

Mark,

Thanks for providing the details. I sometimes forget that not everybody is a developer<g>.

Heh, yeah, totally forgot to mention the folder is hidden by default as well. Butterfingers!
