I've encounter several problems with recording using Home Studio 8; not sure whether they are related. 1) Often, not always, direct audio recordings (from keyboard) lag behind the other tracks. 2) After recording one new audio recording, I can not record a second track without shutting down Acid and opening again. 3) Recording of trumpet using a Shure SM57 mic, sound gabbled and scratchy and is out of sync, time wise with the other loops. All audio, whether direct or through a mic is run through a Tascam US 100 and sounds fine before recording. Lastly, 4) when trying to lay down a midi recording using a Yamaha B200, I get no midi tracks at all. I'm not sure whether
these are all separate issues or reflective of a single underlying problem, but would
appreciate any suggestions.

You may have to play with Home Studio's audio device settings (under Options > Preferences) as far as the lag goes.

Not sure about MIDI recording using the Yamaha B200. Since I noticed that the TASCAM US 100 has no MIDI input, where is the B200 going? To another audio/MIDI interface?

Yes the midi from the keyboard goes in through the second USB port (Tascam 100 in the other). When I try to trigger a VST instrument in Acid I get no sound but in Cantabile, I do get sound. In Cantabile, I have to indicate that the midi input is coming in through a USB port. In Acid there is no device indicated under "external midi preferences" and no way I can see to indicate that a USB port is being used. It seems like this could be the problem.

The gabled and scratchy sound with using a mic is strange as the mic is plugged into
the Tascam US 100 Interface. When I use a direct audio in, I can record just fine in
Home Studio 8.

How is the B200 actually connected? Are you using a MIDI-to-USB converter cable of some sort? If so, the problem may lie with getting the MIDI converter cable identified by Windows. Make sure if there are any drivers they are installed properly.

Could be that the USB bus is a little too busy. Try to isolate the TASCAM on its own without any other devices on the USB hub to see if that helps.

The recording thru the mic problem somehow went away. I'm wondering if you could give a bit more information about "playing with the options/preferences" in acid to deal with the latency issue (your previous comment). I'm lost as to what to play with.

With respect to midi-recording, I have a MIDI to USB cable. I'm guessing that this is
not being recognized by Acid. When I go to Options/Preferences/Midi, I see two tables. One is headed by "Make these devices available for midi track playback".
There is one choice to click under "Hardware Port" and that is "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth". Under "Make these devices available for midi input" it says only "None". I would think this is where the USB part should show up. If so, I need to figure out how to make that happen.

Audio, whether direct from the keyboard or thru a Mic works through the TASCAM regardless of whether I have a MIDI cable plugged into the second USB port or not. But maybe you mean something else. ACID definitely needs to have the MIDI input you desire to use enabled in order to use it. If it's not there, something's up.

Check Device Manager by pressing the Windows Logo key + Pause/Break on your keyboard. Usually, MIDI devices are listed under "Sound, video and game controllers."

Some MIDI interfaces require no driver installation at all (like my M-Audio Oxygen 8 MIDI keyboard that has a native MIDI USB interface). Some other interfaces do.

I was referring to any pop/clicks/glitches that occur when using the TASCAM with your mic. The USB bus tends to get a little busy if there's a lot going on (especially with digital audio). If you dedicate the USB bus traffic to just the TASCAM you could find out if there's anything else that was causing the glitching.

Usually, a USB hub has a few ports, grouped together. (e.g., 4 USB ports on the back with 2 USB ports on the front of one's computer.) If your mouse is plugged into the same group as, say, your TASCAM, more than likely they're sharing the same bus.
