Subject:Changing pitch without affecting tempo

How do you do that? I often load an mp3 as a backing track into Acid Music Studio 8. Sometimes I'll drop or raise a key to one that I am more proficient at (usually just a half-step.) But this always changes the tempo. Is there a way I can retain the original tempo? Thanks for any help.
