Is there a way to set up SF to record each side of a Skype call on separate channels? Me on one channel and the other side on the second channel. If not does anyone have a suggestion on how to balance the volume levels? |

Have you installed musicvid? Visited the download site. Instead of the program downloading a file downloads that wants to download the program. Made me suspicious because of the download process. Is there a pay program that will record Skype calls so each end of the conversation is recorded on a different audio channel (not interested in video). Is it even technically possible to record each end of the conversation on a separate channel? |

I don't think you can split the audio. There are lots of programs to try to capture the stream or screen. Check some out and let us know what works for you. http://tinyurl.com/3cheqp9 Jesse |

If the sound card allowed recording from two inputs at once, one could select both the Wave output and the Mic input. And if the sound card also allowed panning of the recording inputs then one could pan the Wave output hard left and the Mic input hard right. However, sound cards tend to fall into two categories: cheap consumer grade that don't offer simultaneous inputs and advanced mixing capabilities, or pro cards that won't necessarily offer those particular channels. So i'd say this is an unlikely solution. If i were to do this i'd record the call in mono, then in Vegas i'd do a split each time the conversation changed sides, then use the Down Arrow on each of the pieces for one side to bump them to the next track. Then it would be easy to adjust the header volume independently for each side, as well as add EQ, compression, limiting, etc. independently to each side. Could probably be accomplished just as effectively in Sound Forge but it would be more effort to highlight & drag parts to the other channel. |

Thanks for the feedback guys. Chienworks, Your approach does involve more work, but most likely the only one that is going to achieve what I want. Because I'm using SF Pro it will involve more work, but don't see any alternative. Do you know of any sound cards that would handle a Wave output and Mic input in the fashion you suggest. The less expensive the better. Thanks Message last edited on4/25/2011 9:50:45 AM byStoryman. |

Storyman, I have no earthly idea where you got your download link, but if you type "Levelator" into Google, the first hit takes you to its download page, where you will get the full executable (not a stub). I see now there are others farther down the list, so sorry for assuming too much: http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/levelator Bruce and Malcom, who wrote Levelator (and Pluraleyes and Dualeyes) are two of the most helpful, generous, talented software engineers I have ever known. I am a beta tester for them. That doesn't guarantee their free software will do what you want, but I wouldn't offer a suggestion if I hadn't installed it and used it myself, and you can count on that in the future. Best of luck with your recording needs. Message last edited on4/25/2011 10:57:33 AM bymusicvid10. |

Musicvid, Thanks for the follow up. I'll give it a try. |
