How do you turn off the damper envelope.When I record my piano parts and press the sustain pedel the envelopes screw me up.Marc

Right-click the MIDI track in question > Insert/Remove Envelope > Hide Damper Pedal.

Are the envelopes getting in your way visually?

You cannot hide the damper pedal envelope when you are recording. This is true for any controller that you want to record along with notes. The intent is to show you everything that is being recorded.

The only thing you can do is set a record filter to not record the damper.

What about the showing of the damper envelope is screwing you up?

Can you help me figure out how to edit the damper? If I click on the top of the envelope it says "pedal on" and if I click on the bottom of the envelope it says "pedal off". Well, which is it? I'm having a heck of a time figure out what the evenlope line even means. I can't tell when it goes off or on.

How can I move the evelope? It seems locked in place. I'm so glad you posed this question. I've been trying to figure out how to edit the pedal for over one year now without success. I had posted the question many times on other forums and never got an answer.

The damper is a switch. On - off.

The envelope reflects this. The top indicates when the pedal is pressed. The bottom indicates when it is not press. When playback is during the top line, the damper is on. Whe playback is during the envelope line at the bottom, the damper is off.


You can move the points left or right, or from the top to the bottom. You can delete the points as well. Right click on the envelope for options. Right click on then points tom edit the points.

You can also insert points.

Ah, thank you, Peter. Now it makes sense. I couldn't even see that line for the damper pedal at the top or bottom because it is so small but after you said that I looked again and could see a thin blue line.

It might be nice of Sony updated the help files to show how to use the damper pedal. :) It's not obvious, at least to me.

Hi Pete,

You've helped me with the damper pedal in the past. I have a new problem: I am unable to move the left most damper point at the very beginning of my midi piano piece. I can move it up or down but I cannot move it left or right. Is there some way to unlock it?

There must always be a point at the start. Insert points after the first, then change them as you want. This is how envelopes work in ACID.

I tried what you said and, yes, I can enter another point. But I ran into an issue.

I have seven seconds of empty time at the beginning of the piece that I wanted to delete so I did that. However, I had pressed the damper pedal during those seven seconds. It won't let me delete the pedal even though the time is deleted and if I try and move the event on the right hand side of my deletion point over to the left the program crashes because it doesn't like the damper pedal still being there.

Maybe I should just try and record the piece from the beginning again but I figure it's good to learn how to do this stuff in case it pops up again.

I think an easier way to ask what I'm trying to figure out is how can I move the damper pedal if I make a mistake and want to move it to a different location, especially the very first one?

Well, I tried another trick to fix my problem but it didn't work. I thought I might copy the damper pedal envelope section that I want to a brand new track. Unfortunately, Acid automatically changes it to a volume envelope and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it back to what it was unless you know how to do that.

I just wish there was a way to move the event and the damper pedal together to the left so I could get rid of that 7 second empty space but whenever I do that Acid crashes and sends a report back to Sony.

By default, envelope points that are hovering over a clip/event will be locked to them. There should be a button on the toolbar if they're not locked already.

Not sure what's causing your crashing; I tried to repro with both the Sony DLS synth and Garritan's Virtual Concert Grand synth but cannot get it to crash. It could be a video driver issue.

When you add an envelope to a track, it's persistent. In other words, you cannot make it invisible at points along the track. Your options are "off" or a value (like "on" or a numerical value).
