Subject:DLS soft synth distorted

Hi, whenever I add the Sony DLS soft synth to my projects a distorted sound is played when pressing notes on the keyboard interface on screen, or when clicking notes on the track or clip window. However, if notes are drawn in the clip then the whole project played back, the sound comes out correctly.

This problem persists no matter what sample rate/bit depth I use. The problem does not occur with any other soft synths. I have no effects on the DLS synth, it is only the synth itself. I have tried going through the patches in the synth, and they all have the same problem.

Interestingly, if I play back the project and simply click notes on the synth window, the problem is gone.

I have a core 2 duo e6600, 4gb ram, vista 32 bit (latest patches etc), asus xonar stx and am using the asio driver.

Nobody had this problem or got any suggestions? As I already stated, this problem appears limited to the Sony DLS soft synth that came with Acid; it is with all patches in the synth, and does not happen during project playback. The output meters are not clipping, and there are no effects on the plugin. CPU usage is very low, so that also is not a factor.

Any help or advice that can be offered would be appreciated.

If you switch driver models (from ASIO to, say, Windows Classic Wave), does the problem still exist?

Yes it does. I have tried different sample rates and drivers, but the problem persists. I am at a loss as to what the cause of the problem is, as the Aria vsti that came with Acid works fine for example, as does Kontakt 4 and any of the samples I use in that.

I am guessing that it is most likely due to an incompatibility with my soundcard though, as the drivers do not seem to be well suited to music production; all the drivers after the one I am using appear broken in one way or another, and before have higher latency.

Thank you for your reply.
