As has been said here many, many times before; those that know, can't say and those that say, don't know. Just wait for NAB like the rest of us.

John,

Hmmmmm, couldn't just say nothing, right? Guess I can't either. Few like questions answered like you just did in this thread. Yes, yes, yes.... I'm sure everyone should just keep their curiousity to themselves, and stop harassing others with questions YOU consider pointless.
rs170a wrote on 3/29/2011, 2:57 PM
VanLazarus, it is pointless to ask because the truth is exactly as John said.
We can speculate all we want but that's all it will be, pure speculation.
My dream/wish/hope is for Pro 10.0d to be released at the Sony Vegas NAB party.
Now there's a rumour to start :)

I'm hoping they announce their plans to support 4D.... this 3D thing is getting so old. ;-)

(I mean my phone is 4G... should my video be at least 4D?)

Forgive me. I know about the NDA for Sony just was asking a question I was thinking about.
Did not think that it would cause a ruckus Sorry John, I will consider my thought more closely in the future.

NAB is like the Tao -- those who know, do not say; and those who say, do not know.

jr, 4D is going along with 8K video and 22.1 surround sound, right :)

rs170a,

If someone wants to speculate, I'm not going to rain on their parade. Maybe it's pointless to speculate, but it's annoying to get clubbed in the head for asking if anyone knows anything.

well i heard on good advice that they're bringing in voice activated editing. you know, "cut, insert dissolve, mute, stabilise, etc.,"

can't wait.....

Hm, I've been to the Tao while at NAB and I ain't saying nuttin more. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas :)

Who was it that said, “Pointing out someone else’s rudeness is itself a rudeness”? And, “Look for the wrongs you see in others in yourself first”?

Well, as for clubbing, the only one doing any of it hereabouts, it seems to me, is the one hurling the accusation at others. (But wait, wouldn’t it be a rudeness for me to point that out? And wouldn’t it also make me either unaware of my own stone-throwing behaviour or purposely and needlessly provocative?)

For myself, I always enjoy the threads where someone asks about upcoming updates or new releases. The responses usually recur in a predictable manner with each iteration, and yes, sometimes gruffly and sometimes with unpredictable goodwill and good humour—but hopefully they always reveal the yearnings and desires and level-headedness of a community of friends (I was going to say a club of friends, but thought better).

Wouldn’t a Tao go good now?

I'm not sure, but I do know that man who said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" was Jesus Christ... (btw, no one threw any stones that day) ;-)

I can be pretty safe in betting that this won't happen *at* NAB. To the best of my knowledge, sony has never held a maintenance release for a trade show. If there's a 10.0d or even a 10.1 in the labs, Sony will release it when it's ready.
rs170a wrote on 3/31/2011, 7:58 AM
Steve, I won't take that bet because odds are that you're correct.
And as we all know, in Vegas, the odds are with the house :)

Hmmm, I didn't think my first reply was particularly rude. Sony almost never announces updates, they just show up one day. I believe I can only vaguely remember once when we were given any advance warning. However, new full versions are sometimes announced, usually no more than a month prior to the release.

Since all we can do is speculate, I suspect that 10.0d will likely show up around NAB time and it will at least add support for the new Sony "Full-3D" camcorders which will be released at the same time.
erikd wrote on 3/31/2011, 2:23 PM
The forum admin already said a new release was coming soon. Remember the thread where I was complaining about lack of time code in VP10? Sorry, typing from phone.

Seems like to me the second part of this answer would have been a nice way of answering the first time.

Well, it was kind of sneaky, but at one NAB we caught a widely respected individual booting up his computer with the then-unheard-of variant called Vegas Pro. (His initials were, um, "Spot.") He swore us to secrecy ...
We still respect his work very much. And if he happens to be reading this, we might just see him again next week at NAB. I hope.

actually, I'd prefer invoice activated editing - the more you invoice the better the edit!
John_Cline wrote on 4/5/2011, 1:57 AM
Speaking of Spot, he was the one that coined the phrase, "those that know, can't say, those that say, don't know." I don't remember anyone accusing him of being rude on the occasions when he has said it. :-)

It's interesting to speculate about where technology is headed, but it can often be quite wrong.

Think of "2001, a space odessy", "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers", etc.
ushere wrote on 4/5/2011, 5:30 AM
peter, the only certainty is that technology is heading forward slightly faster than our ability to pay for the fastest system....

Personally I think there is no such thing as a dumb question. How should anyone know that no-one knows if they don't ask.

Since this could be the time Sony decides to leak information to the loyal forums before officially issuing the press release you'll never know if asking is pointless until after you try.

I have noticed however, you can predict fairly well, that the older people get the less likely they will be open to testing the waters for new ideas and just assume things are going to stay like they've always been. If I had to speculate as to why I would say it's related to conserving energy and not wanting to expend more than absolutely necessary or something along those lines. Which is, of course, not an issue when younger.
