Very nice!

Midtones are a bit warm, noticeably so to this old color corrector. Is this intentional?

Could be, there is certainly the option to do that in the camera.

It does look great...then again, for $18,000 it should look great LOL

I'd love to have one though...

In my opinion, the quality of the PMW-F3 for under $20,000 is quite an achievement. Of course, I come from the days when entry-level broadcast cameras cost $50,000+ and produced video which is absolutely laughable by current standards. That $50,000 was like the equivalent of $150,000 in today's dollars.

Would you say that the midtones warmth in this footage may be due to a white balance choice?

Reminds me of the juiced up fleshtones in some of the PBS travelogues.

With such camera, the WB is not the only factor. Picture profiles allow ajustement of gamma curves, knee and pedestal. You also have the choice between hypergamma and S-log curves to manage the dynamic range.

You can also alter the color with a rather advanced LUT.

The explaination could be way simpler however. Watch the first few seconds and you'll notice a rather irky brown cast to the fog / smog. Me thinks it's something in the air. I've had something similar happen to me down here with a lot of red dust in the air and it isn't that easy to WB or grade out because the shadows are affected more than objects in direct light.

I agree Bob. It really looks like an early morning with Sirocco. This hot wind full of dust blowed my mind when I was a kid. Hot rain too, during the phenomena I could have had a shower in the garden.

In the Vimeo comments, the shooter (or someone apparently associated with him) mentions doing something with the white balance:

[FilmesDaMente] Thanks. We used the standard Cinegammas 1 and 3. We did some tricks in whitebalancing thoug.

More than anything I noticed he used an excellent tripod. Nice to see nowadays.
