Sonic Foundry... Or anybody who knows..

I am having a problem with Acid on a simple 2 Computer Network.

If i try to open a track from the remote machine which happens to be Acid 2 track there are no problems and it will load and play fine. But if its an Acid 3 track it will start to aopen but then bring up an error which states that it is unable to open, Object Not Found??

Also in general if Acid cant find the sample your presented with the search dialog box where you can choose what to do, but you cannot make acid search on a network drive!!! Is there anyway of changing this? If there isnt i think you should change this in the next version.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have not had any problems opening projects over a few different networks that I have access to. Are the machines hubbed? cross-over cabled? Which OS's are they running? Is the object-not-found error in reference to an audio sample or does the project fail to continue to load after that?

As for your second question, if you mount the share you are accessing as a network drive on your machine it will be accessible for searching.

The network i am working on is a simple 2 computer cross over cable network. Both machines are running ME and are networked with a specified IP. Sharing files and playing network games are no problem at all.

The error doesnt appear to be because of a sample as it simply will not do anything afterwards, just back to the main screen.

Thanks for the tip on the browsing.

Which type of Acid Project are you opening?

Normal acd?
Acid project with embedded audio
Acid project with external audio
acd-zip?

Just standard .acd projects that will have on average 15 - 20 tracks and use a maximum of 3 -4 DSP plugins.

Are the loops that the projects are using local or also located on a network share? Is it the same share as the projects or another one altogether?

The projects i am trying to load are all on the remote computer and were composed on the remote computer. Therefore all the parts, ie acid file samples etc are on the remote computer.

Could it possibly be DirectX plugins?? Does Acid save a path to them?? The same plugins are installed on the machinces so that shouldnt make a difference. And it still loads older tracks!!

If you copy the project, and then specify the location of the samples it loads it fine.

I have a similar problem... Let me explain...

I have Windows ME, Acid Pro 3, a VERY full 40 gig HD. Every 6 months, it's good to back up everything, re-format and re-install Windows and all the latest drivers, software updates, etc with a FRESH sparkly clean registry.... SOOOO.... Considering that I have about 13 gig of music and DON'T relish organizing and burning 19+ cd's, I went out and got ANOTHER 40 gig HD, made THAT one my IDE-0, installed ME on it, reloaded and updated all things needed (Including Acid Pro 3) . When I try to access almost ANY of the 50+ acid project files on the old 'C' drive (now 'D'), I receive an "Object not found" error. I also use several plugs for compression, reverb etc. and probably re-installed them the SAME WAY. I have several acid projects that I KNOW I didn't use any plugs on, but the same "OBJECT" error returns. I mean, it doesn't attempt to load ANY of the tracks... it simply throws the error in your face, you click 'ok', and you're left with the same blank acid screen. I'm getting a bit worried, considering I don't think that fishing through six months of RECORD TAKES in random folders thoughout a hard drive will be a "cinch".

Could it be that the project file, since it was originally created and saved on a 'C' drive, have problems with it's own identity finding itself on a 'D' drive? That would explain the network problems listed above!!

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.
