Why not start a thread on neat little tricks and decipherings of the program. Here's my two cents: According to SF technical support: CHOP AND SAVE AS -If you only want to use a portion of a loop, example, first 2 measures only, you can select that portion in the chopper and then render that selection as a separate/new loop. ONE SHOT LOOPS -One shots: If you want to avoid copy pasting one shots that you will use extensively in a project, you can also use the "render as" gizmo to save your one shot lay out as a loop. cool, huh? |

Hey what's up? I saw in another post of yours that you could open two sessions of Acid at the same time, And copy / paste to a new project. was that to just fix the one type of problem, or is that possible for song edditing, Because I use this method in Vegas for edditing, And in Autocad, it opens up alot of creative possibilities for edditing. I will get some of my tips posted when I have more time at the computer. See ya, Rockit |

That suggestion came to me from SF. In my case it was to see if I could get rid of the 3b bug. |

Hello, I found a way to use lots of effects, and not get skipping and dropouts. I was creating projects using assignable effects and busses, and getting high CPU readings and skipping and cutouts. The project had 30+ tracks and 4 assignable effects and 2 busses, each effect only had one effect per chain. It would playback at 99% CPU readings and if I moved my curser the playback would skip. So I removed all the assignable effects and used track effects in place of them, And I have an effect assigned to every track and 4 effects in each chain, so thats 30 times 4 effects total, and the CPU meter is only running at 60% to 75%. BIG JUMP IN PERFORMANCE!! So what I'm saying is, Use track effects in place of assignable effects, and you should get much better performance. Hope this helps some of you people having skipping and buffer problems. See ya, Rockit |

Hi Rockit How many track and what Plugins are you using? and what type of CPU & OS? The reason I ask is because the last few weeks I've been running a lot of stress testing on Acid 3.Thanks for the 411 GW |

I bought a cheap CD of sound effects at Staples and loaded up some of 'em on my hard drive. Some of 'em like machine sounds and heartbeats have a rythumn to them and you can make 'em into percussion loops that are pretty cool. Lotsa material on em ta spur yer imagination. |

They are not loops, just wave files. They are "6000 sound effects". They are made by COSMI. Web site: http://www.cosmi.com . Some of the sounds are truly crap but there were enough good'ns there to make it worth it to me. Some poorly recorded, too, low fi. But it was only $10. |

I tried "jet taking off", "radio tuning in" last night. Sounded good with the other loops. Also, have you been to the free Acoustic Mirror site? It's at: http://www.geocities.com/beamsonic/welcome.htm I like the Struder tape machine impulse. Some of the others really whack yer CPU so watch it. Run the dry on infinity and quality on 5 if you can, |

Let's keep this one near the top for a while. I'll contribute some keyboard shortcuts: up/down arrows - zoom in and out S - split Number pad +/- - Pitch shift selected region up or down Space bar - play/stop Ctrl+Z - undo Ctrl+Shift+Z - redo Alt+2 - Chopper T - tempo change marker at current cursor position K - Key change marker at current cursor position M - Marker at current cursor postion You can also insert any of these markers on the fly. Great thread! I'll post some more stuff later. Ted |

Gbat, I crawled around my local Staples to no avail and a lengthy search of their site yields nothing. (not to be rude but) Are you sure it was Staples? Any particular section? On one of the bargain racks? The only thing I could find was the Becker 10,000 Wav set (9 CD for $69.95). Anyone know anything about that set? Thanks. (oh I did email Cosmi's N.A. distributor) |

How do you deal with wanting loops from 3 or more CD's on a project? I have yet to deal with this but I am sure I will when I get more CD's. I have a CDROM and a CD burner so I can use 2 at once. The only way I can think of is to transfer the loops to a hard drive and reload the song so it references the hard drive folders instead of the CD's. This would leave your CD players free for 2 more CD's. Anybody got any other way to proceed? |

Check the times on the last 2 posts, I was writing at the same time as you but you beat me in! I was afraid you wouldn't find it there. I was pretty sure it was Staples but I'm getting on in years and it could have been Best Buy or Wal-mart. Sorry, you fell victim to my fuzzy memory. I have to live with it all of the time. :( I checked out some Sound Effects CD's from the local library which had some pretty good quality sounds, but they had labels on it pronoucing generational curses on you if you copied them. What good would they be otherwise? Sit down after a hard day, get a cool one, throw a SFX CD in, flop down on your easy chair, and relax to the sounds of car wrecks and explosions!? |

That's the way I do it. I copy all of my loops to my hard drive in a folder on one of my partitions. (I have a 45 GB drive.) They equal to about a little over 3 GB thus far. Not only does this free my DVD-ROM and my CD-RW, it also doesn't kill my creative flow. I used to have to swap CD's all the time. As you've found out, it's a pain the arse. If you don't have *that* much room, you could use the "Copy all media with project" option to copy only the loops dealing with the project. Then the next time you open the project, you wouldn't have to whip out your CD's, unless you wanted to add more loops to the project. HTH, Iacobus |

I had a song that had a ton of rhythm loops and in some parts it sounded just too busy. So in Sound Forge I split the stereo waves into the L and R components. And saved them as L and R copies. Then in Acid I reopened the WAVs seperately. Panned each WAV to their respective channels (some times not hard left or hard right to give a little more depth to the pan field) and used the Split function to cut up some of the WAVs. Then I used the erase feature to thin out some of the business. On other WAVs I used the Volume envelope to duck down their level. So thats me 2 cents cm |

Yup, Well I dug into Best Buy as well before I posted the last, but they must've cleaned out all the junk in mine to make way for what? rows of empty software racks. A friend of mine has an LP of engine starts; One side is formula cars starting and then idling then racing past, and the other side is of famous rigs like GTO, Barracuda, Small Block Chevy, etc. Think I'll have a choc shake with that while I'm thinking about the 6000 effects whereabouts. |

gbat, i 'save as' with embedded media always because i tend to use multiple sources for sounds and trying to find each one is way beyond my abilities. |

Thanks. i'm loading it now. It says that the disc is at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, CompUSA. I passed by my local CompUsa after burning out on Staples and Best Buy (112F degrees today!) But i'll go back and look for it another day. Thanks for the link, the site looks worthy of exploration. BTW, I responded to a few of your other threads and posts here and there. cheers, ken |

I got this response from Cosmi's distributor: We can mail this CD to you. The cost is $9.95 plus $2.00 shipping and handling. Make your check payable to American Software Distributing Co and mail to 1815 Cottonwood Place Escondido Ca 92026 and we will ship to you. Thank you and have a nice evening. John Goss (with apologies to SF for this info, but does SF even have 'sound effects' libraries?) |

We have been talking about sound effects cd's but there's a ton of sounds you can use for Acid that no one else can duplicate, (imitate, but not duplicate). I'm speaking of the ordinary sounds that occur in your environment. I find myself listening to EVERYTHING and evaluating it for possible project use. If you have a mike and a soundcard you can make a lot of neat sounds and use 'em. I heard the Kinks song, "You really got me" done entirely with voice and mouth noises, it was funny but actually sounded good. I'm looking for a mini-disk recorder so I can get sounds when and where I hear 'em. Ya can mix crappy sounds with good ones and guess what, it all sounds good! |
