Subject:Acid Pro 7 track modify in Sound Forge

I just downloaded trial version of Acid Pro 7 and loaded some studio track recordings done at commercial studio (in Acid). I have Sound Forge 9 and have used it plenty, but not with Acid. I selected a guitar track and then selected edit in sound forge (Acid Tools). It won't let me save it after modify, and says there is an error. (My understanding is I need to click save in SF and then it modifies the ACID track. When I try to cut and paste it back in, the "timing" is off. Is there a trick? Is this a trial version limitation? I know that this is permanent editing as opposed to the non destructive, but I am trying to see how both programs interact, and I am much more familar in making modifications in Sound Forge. Thanks for any thoughts as to why I can't implement the SF modification of Acid track. Matthew |

I'm using ACID Pro 7 with Sound Forge Pro 10 here without problems. The steps you listed are pretty much all you have to do (or should be able to do): Open in Sound Forge, make your edits, save in Sound Forge then switch back to ACID; the modifications should be reflected in ACID. Not sure what's going on there in your case. What's the error say? Making edits in Sound Forge is a bit tricky where ACID Pro is concerned mainly because of the time stretching capabilities of ACID. For example, if you edit the length of a four-beat Loop that's exactly 2 seconds long to be longer or shorter, you're messing with the tempo the Loop was intended for. (120 BPM, in this case.) The timing will definitely be off. Iacobus |

Thank you for Reply. The error I am getting is "An error occured while saving one or more files." "The File could not be created." Its on two lines like above. I have tried calling Sony but I am on a way different time zone. Is it a limitation of the trial version? Thats what I am thinking, and I can't find anything from Sony about how the trial version is limited. Otherwise, I am thinking maybe not compatible with SF 9. I don't really understand the loop stuff....but what I did was use Wave Hammer to compress sound, and then added a little reverb.....would that change the length of the sound or where it falls, so it doesn't line up with other tracks? Sorry...I guess I am that inexperienced with Track recording. I wanted to boost my guitar with compression and reverb, and reinsert it into Acid. I assumed timing would be same. Thanks. Matthew |

Is the file write protected? In ACID do you have the "Close MEDIA files on application focus change" enabled? This is important. Peter |

I unchecked it, but I still get the problem. Then when I restart both programs again, when I attempt to edit the program in SF, Acid tells me I have to select the "Close MEDIA files" in preference, as I think that prohibits a modification in Acid, while file is being tinkered in SF. I see you are a SONY PCH; are you a moderater? I am thinking this must be a trial version issue? I love SF and have used it and Vegas for a while. I have used SF since Sonic Foundry started it and they gave it away. I am trying to evaluate using ACID as my DAW for multi track band recordings. Thanks for any further advice. matthew |

Yes, "Close MEDIA files" needs to be on. Is the file read only on your HD? No, I am not a moderator. Just a Dev hear. I am not aware of such a limitation of the demo software. Our demos are time limited, but fully functional. Peter Peter |

HD is read write. What is: "In ACID do you have the "Close MEDIA files on application focus change" enabled? This is important."? I am not sure what this is?? I did preferences as noted above, but you are talking about something else. Where is it; is it a sub preference? Tx matthew |

You set the right pref. Not is your Hard Drive read/write: Is the file you are trying to change in forge read only. Right Click on it in Windows Explorer, and select "Properties". Is the file marked as Read only? If it is, then change it to read/write. Peter |

Yes. Thank you; that was it. When I did a right click on the song directory (of the multi tracks), its file attribute was "Read Only." Once I clicked that off, the SF file will save. Its interesting because the wave form looks the same in Acid before and after, so I cant really tell if my saving it in SF, made the Acid clip file modified. I will play around with it some more. Thanks again Peter! Matthew |
