Subject:Removing audio buzz

I am a novice at such things and would appreciate help. I have SF 9.0 and record sermons--so voice only in mono. I have a particular recording that has a terrible audio buzz throughout that I would like to remove if possible. What can I do to achieve this, if at all? Thank you for the help. |

Look in Menu | Tools | Noise Reduction; if you click on ? mark top right corner you'll get help from the manual. |

My version doesn't have noise reduction. I downloaded some filters for the EQ and played around but the buzz is overpowering and nothing seemed to help at all. I guess I am stuck. Thanks for the help. |

Thanks for the help. My reply: SF9 comes with Noise Reduction as part of the package. If you have SFAS that might not have it. Either way it would help to know what type of buzz - 60 Hz, broadband, or what. If it's 60 Hz you could try a series of narrowband filters centered at 60HZ and it's harmonics. If it's more broadbanded what you could do is to enable a filter and set it to boost instead of cut. Sweep through the frequency spectrum until you find the spot the buzz gets the loudest and then switch the filter to cut and you should be good to go. The Sony Paragraphic EQ plugin in SF has a number of presets that may be able to help - for example it has one to deal with 60Hz. Jack |

If you have SFAS (NR not included) then you could download Audacity (free) which has a very basic noise reduction plug in. Its definitely basic but it may work and certainly worth a try. |

I downloaded filters from here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/video/restore-audio-soundforge.htm and played around a bit but I just don't know enough about it to do anything good. Sounds like buzz from bad flourescent tubes. The buzz is scattered all over the spectrum and quite loud, so a simple 60Hz stack will not do that much good. Best bet (but not cheap) is Izotope RX. Message last edited on2/23/2011 10:38:26 AM bymusicvid10. |

We found a bad cable to the mic input on the camera. I tried the 60Hz filter and like you said, didn't do much. The best filter was one for A/C fan noise but still not much help. What is Izotope RX? Thanks for the help. |
