Subject:Acid Pro 7 startup problem

Hi
I have tried the auto-respons support for days now and still not given an answer to my "prays".
So I'm trying you people in this forum for some help.

Here's my problem:
Baught AP7 some days ago and when I try to start up the prg, it seems to run and run and never stop. To me it seems it runs the whole C:disk (my main disk) where the prg is installed. Then it says it stopped working. I have tried to uninstall and then run it again, 2 times - but no result. R6034 runtime error.
It seems like it's going through all the files on my main hard disk (C:/...) Then after a while (some minutes) I get an error message and then after awhile a message that AP7 is stopped working. I can see this because when uploading AP7 the progress line (uploading) shows me a lot of files that AP7 is trying to load?
What am I to do?

Geir Inge

That seems very odd. What version of Windows are you running?

I'm on Windows 7 and don't see AP7 doing that, but that's no helpful to you!

Now, I have Media Manager installed and it will scan for media items on startup, but on my laptop it takes maybe 20-30 seconds at most.

It's possible AP7 thinks it's looking for media items, but somehow decided its going to scan EVERYTHING..

I'm not at home in my studio so I'll need to go check to see if there's something in AP7 that you can do when it starts to keep it from doing.. I'll try to find somethin out, if I can.

It sounds like your VST plugin directory might be set to C:
Search the forum for "plugin directory". There is a description of how to fix that.

Hi,

I am having problems with ACID and requested support nearly three weeks ago, but got no response at all.

A couple of days ago I called Sony (from New Zealand) and spoke with them for nearly 45 minutes (ouch... international toll call!) and quoted the "Question Reference" number.

They have now been in regular contact and are trying to resolve the issues.

Give them a call and good luck with your problems.

I tried to search for "plug in directory" and found as you said cyrilfb, a tread explaning what to do. I have tried the tip, but it wont work. So now I'm hoping that sony support will answer and give me a helping hand. It's bad for their reputation if not.
I haven't even get to try my prg yet.

It sounds like ACID is attempting to scan your entire harddrive for plug-ins.

With ACID not running, locate the following directory on your machine:

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Sony\ACID Pro\7.0

There is a file in this directory:

vst_grovel.log

Open this file in notepad.exe (double clicking on vst_grovel.log should do this for you.)
There will be at least one entry that looks something like this:

INFO 2011-02-02 09:44:07 **** Grovelling path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Vstplugins\*.*"... ****

What exactly does your say?

If it says anything like:

INFO 2011-02-02 09:44:07 **** Grovelling path "C:\*.*"... ****

The the search path for VST plug-ins is bad. Follow the foloowing steps to correct.

In the same directory described above is a file :

acidpro.plugincache.xml

Delete this file.

Start ACID.

ACID should reset its search directory for plug-ins and not search the entire system.

Let me know if this works.

Peter

Hi SonyPCH
Thank you for helping out and YES it worked.
Now I can play :)
There was plenty of files in the vst_grovel.lo file, I deleted all of them exept the one pointing at the VST directory.
Then I deleted the acidpro.plugincache.xml file (I forgot at first and it wouldn't run) but then I read your post again now it's running fine.
Thank you very much :)

Hi Peter and all,

I'm having the same problem and am glad to see that you were able to help Geir Inge! I have also contacted customer service and am waiting for a reply but hopefully you or someone can help me too.

I just got AP7 and it ran fine until around I updated windows and then uninstalled and reinstalled Garritan Aria. Since then, on opening Acid it now loads files forever and I start getting the R6034 error message over and over until Acid just hangs at:

Loading Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling.Logging.dll.

I found the vst_grovel.log as you suggested and I see

INFO 2011-02-02 09:44:07 **** Grovelling path "C:\*.*"... ****

right at the top. But after looking through MANY pages, cannot locate the acidpro.plugincache.xml file. (nearly 1,200 pages : / )

I copied and pasted into MS Word also and did a search for it ("acidpro.plugincache.xml", "acidpro", "plugincache" and ".xml" etc)as well with no results.

Any ideas or suggestions for me?

Thanks in advance!!!

Jephyr

---------------

edit: I just re-read Geir Inge's last response. I looked again at the log and the only reference I can find to Acid is when it's connected to Garritan ie:

INFO 2011-03-21 16:08:24 **** Grovelling path "C:\Program Files\Garritan\ARIA for ACID Pro\Programs\JABB\*.*"... ****

etc

He mentions a file "pointed at the vst's"...how is that named?

Thanks again!!

You misread my original post. I trimmed it down here to make it clear for you.

It sounds like ACID is attempting to scan your entire harddrive for plug-ins.

With ACID not running, locate the following directory on your machine:

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Sony\ACID Pro\7.0

Locate this file

acidpro.plugincache.xml

and delete it.

Start ACID.

ACID should reset its search directory for plug-ins and not search the entire system.

Let me know if this works.

Peter,

Thank you so much!!! And for taking the time to simplify!

I found the file and deleted it and Acid opened like a dream.

I was considering a clean install...and at my computer tech. knowledge level could have created even more problems. And as you may have noticed in anotherr thread I was also considering spending $$ on a support plan.

I've been dead in the water on a project I was working on so it's great to be up and running again!! So for all of the above your reply is very much appreciated...thank you very much again!!!

Jephyr
