Subject:Acid Pro 7.0e - Crashing In Vista Issues - help?

I'm experiencing crashes on a regular basis when working exclusively with multi- track 24bit audio in windows vista...which is really turning me off working with Acid altogether. I have never experienced such instability with my other DAW (FL Studio) and indeed, SoundForge Pro 10. I have the latest Acid Pro update installed, so, my question is - Is there something I need to tweak in the program or in Vista to cure this very very annoying issue? Thanks. |

Please fill out your system specs in your user profile. What audio hardware are you using? Are you using ASIO, Classic Wave, or Microsoft Mapper in ACID? Are you using any plug-ins? How is your project set up - multiple busses, audio only, MIDI tracks, specific VST Instruments? What are you doing when the crash occurs? The more details the better. Peter |

Thanks for the reply Peter - Profile updated. Im using E-mu Tracker Pre 24bit ASIO driver with 8 tracks of 24 bit audio - 3 send busses hosting 3 instances of IK Multimedia CSR reverbs with an instance of iZotope effects rack Analog Delay chained with one of the CSR units. On the drum audio channel I have the T-Racks 3 670 Compressor and a T-Racks 3 Brickwall limiter on the master bus. Automation envelopes shaping track volume on most tracks. The problem happened again today and it is not subject to a specific action. It has crashed when attempting to save the project; when making adjustments to track fx and today simply during playback. My work station is isolated, meaning it is not connected to the internet and I have no anti-virus installed. - Craig. |

Crashed again this morning less than 1 hour into the session. This time attempting to render audio out and save to file :( |

Suggestion: remove the T-Racks plugs and try again (remove - don't simply disable them). I had some issues with these plugs with Acid 6 and 7 (demo) and have read about similar problems here if I recall correctly. |

Thanks for the reply drbam - I have never had problems with IK Multimedia products in other DAWs, a little CPU hungry for certain uses for sure but they usually work fine and render out perfectly. I'll take your advice and see if the stability improves within my Acid project. I'm wanting so much to establish a workflow with Acid as a mixing tool in my production chain because the audio channel and mixing/monitoring options are excellent - the midi I'm not taken with, nothing tops FL's piano roll IMO - but audio..hell yes! So, if your suggestion works then I'l need to introduce the T-Racks processing at the 'pre' Acid Pro import stage. - cheers. |

I didn't have problems with the CRS verb but definitely with the compressors/limiters. But to be accurate with your troubleshooting, I'd remove them all and proceed from there. FYI, I rarely use Acid anymore because of the stability problems I experienced. I will still record and carve out some original loops in Acid (Acid is still the best for this) but then I import everything into Reaper which is by far the most stable DAW I've ever used. |

Two things come to mind: E-mu hardware: We have had many problems with the Emu drivers, but only with their older devices. IK Multimedia plugins: Again, problems in the past, but nothing recently. The first thing I would try is to use the built-in audio on your system or a different audio device if you have one available. Also, make sure that Windows default sound device is not using the Emu hardware, as this can cause problems. If that does not resolve the problem, then I would try removing the IK plug-ins from your project. I know, not a great thing, but this is the only way I can think of narrowing down the problem. Let me know your results. Peter |

Thanks drbam - Reaper eh? Never looked at it at all, maybe I should. @Peter - Thanks for your suggestions - I started a new project today and I intend to use the iZotope Mastering suite I got with Sound Forge Pro 10 bundle on the master bus in place of IK TRacks3 - see if it provides more stability. Got to say that while tracking out this new project I have had a seemless workflow - so maybe? I'll feedback the results as the project develops. - The E-mu soundcard is isolated as I have always disabled the onboard soundcard. Thank again to all.
