Subject:effects remain in DEMO mode after upgrade

I thought I'd seen something about this here before, but several searches came up blank.

upgraded SF10a to SF10c. some of the effects are now in DEMO mode with beeps in the audio. these worked fine prior to the upgrade.

any ideas?
