Subject:SF 8 - Scrolling Problem

I've used SF for years, but after recently re-installing, I can't get the waveforms to scroll, and this is effecting my metering as well, as meters just freeze at whatever start point I'm starting from.

I'm completely used to the preferences, and scrolling is checked.
I saw something in help about zoom, but lowering zoom didn't do anything either.

Thanks,
Russ

You have no system specs listed. What OS are you running?

Rob.

To clarify a bit more, when I hit play, my meters or cursor never move beyond the start point, even though I hear audio just fine, this makes it very difficult to work.

This just happened to me and I kind of figured out what was going on. It has to do with the "audio device type" (under "audio" in preferences). I use a digi002, and when I select it, the cursor doesn't scroll and the output meters freeze (I can hear the audio just fine). But when I select "microsoft sound mapper", the cursor playback and output meters are fine (somehow routes itself to the digi002).

I haven't had a chance to do any recording yet, so I don't know how that's gonna work out. I assume I'll probably have to adjust some buffer settings, etc. But at least I can edit my audio now.

PS. I'm running this on Windows 7.

This is actually a known issue with the ASIO drivers included in Avid's 8.04cs2 update for Pro Tools. Both metering and the display of the cursor during playback are broken as a result of the driver update.

Using a non-ASIO driver model or dropping back to an earlier driver are a workaround to this issue. To the best of my knowledge though, Avid still hasn't released an update to resolve this problem; you might try contacting them.

Ahhh! That explains it. I was 8.0.3 previously on XP, and when I upgraded I now use 8.0.4. Thanks for that info SonySQAPete.

Bingo, Thanks SonySQAPete and diamf, I just switched over to audio outs from my sound card and SF works properly. The whole reason for me rebuilding my computer was when I upgraded to Pro Tools 8.04. Now I know I'm not crazy. I sure hope there will be a fix for it, as I'd much rather monitor through Pro Tools.

Thanks everyone,
Russ
