I have a 5 yr. old PC that I've relegated to recording Internet Radio programs and other online sources for later playback. Of late, I've run into an problem that I can't resolve. Using the Record - Automatic:Time for timed recordings has worked well for years. As long as the PC has the correct time, the recordings are made without a hitch. Now, from time to time, the recordings are being made with a playback speed that seems to be about half of what it should be. I've verified that the problem is in the recording by playing the files in both Windows Media Player and WinAmp. I can approximate the correct speed by adjusting Playback Rate, but would rather resolve the problem. On occasion, I've had need to change to Record - Normal for 'on demand' recordings, but this is the exception rather than the rule. The recordings made in this manner never have problems. Other items of note - OS is Windows XP Pro. Sound card is M-Audio 2496. Everything else is pretty generic. The PC gets used for precious little else other than file storage. I've just un-installed and reinstalled Sound Forge. Hopefully this will resolve things. Any suggestions? |

This sounds like it could be a sample rate mismatch issue. Check to make sure the sample rate is the same across your playback/recording sources. It sounds like your playback source is expecting a different sample rate than it is receiving. Rob. |

In checking, both the source and playback are set for 22K, 16bit, stereo. But thanks anyway! |

Recheck the settings within your soundcard's software mixer.Possibly the playback rate is 'locked'. There's obviously a sample-rate mismatch somewhere. Have you changed the playback sample rate within SF to find the correct speed. Possibly it's recording @ 44.1k but playing back at 22.05k, (just like playing back a 15ips R-R tape at 7.5ips). which would be half-speed/one octave down". Change the PB sample rate, in 'Properties' (or double-click the sample-rate display) - Additionally check the 'Custom' settings when saving the file. |

Anytime two audio apps are open at the same time (Windows mapper), the device defaults to one of them, and if the sample rates are different than the device default, one will be incorrect. You may have another audio process open, possibly without knowing it. Check your running processes and startup apps and you will probably find it. ...or possibly a stuff-up between "Master Clock" and "Codec Sample Rate" settings on the M-Audio card... check "Reset Rate When Idle".... |
