Subject:Real Producer vs Sound Forge for Real Audio

I am using Sound Forge XP Studio 5 to help convert some mini-disc recordings into web ready streaming formats. I own a couple sports web sites so it is just press conferences and interviews, not music recordings.

Size of files is an issue and I had a 70 minute recording that turned into a 192mb wave file after sending it into my PC. I had to make it 8 bit mono to get it that small.

I pulled this into Sound Forge to save as Real Media and again into the free Real Producer 8 Basic software. The size of the resultant files was surprising. The Sound Forge .rm file was about 9mb in size, while the Real Producer .rm file ended up at 26mb.

The quality of the Real Producer file seemed a tad better but not much. Given that I upload with a modem and face bandwith issues with my host, I went with the Sound Forge version.

Anyway I thought this might be of interest to those looking to do streaming audio with Sound Forge.

As a side issue I would like to heartily recommend using a minidisc for anyone looking for a high quality and convenient way to do remote interviews or journalistic type recordings.
