Well, after trying to hook up speakers to a surround processor (surround was mono only), I realise the best solution for me is a good set of headphones. I live in an apartment with my 2 daughters, so I guess this is the only logical choice. I will be using these with Acid, so as you all know, they have to be comfortable, not get too hot, but mostly reproduce sound honestly. Budget is a factor. So far I have read good things about the Sennheiser HD 25's. I read they block out external sound well. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Later... |

Hello, Well, Make sure the responce is as close to 20Hz-20kHz as possible, and this will cover the full range of music. I use a set of Yamaha $40.00 phones, and they sound pretty good. See ya, Rockit |

Well, if $75 is within budget... The Sony MDR-V6 headphones do a GREAT job of accurate monitoring and keeping out external noise. Sony discontinued them a while back, and replaced them with a more expensive, GREATLY INFERIOR model. But you can still find them for sale at some sites (I recently bought 2 more sets for my studio, after having used & loved one set for several years -- replaced 2 sets from different manufacturers). Their list price is over $100, but the $75 price is available at the site whose address is given below (I have no interest in that site, except that it has the best price my research turned up, and is where I bought my recent sets). -Ernie http://st17.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=millionbuy&query=sony+mdr-v6&foo=Shop+by+Brands |

I really like my Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs. They're around $125 but are well worth it. |

I swear by my Sony MDR-7506 phones.....I have tried many but these are my favorite. Do a great job of keeping the sound in, and the sound out!!! Ever since switching to these my vocal/instrument recordings have been much cleaner...not much bleed! |

I went out and tried some Sennheisers today, along with some Audio Technicas. I brought along my Dire Straits CD, and listened to the songs Brothers in arms, and Private investigation. They (the headphones) both sounded pretty good, albeit quite different. My dilemma is this. When I returned home, I listened to both tracks with my 20 year old Sonys. Well, you guessed it, the Sonys blew them away!! The definition is really much better, and you can "feel" the bass, but it's not exagerated. It's a clean bass. So, you're probably asking, why waste our time asking for opinions? Well, they are uncomfortable as Hell!! I can't last more than 10 songs with these things, how can I spend an evening working with Acid? So, along with your suggestions for good headphones, I would love to hear of a way to make these more comfortable. They are a full size, wrapping around the ear. Would there be generic cusions available to retrofit on these? Thanks for the advice so far! Later... |

How about the 7505's, did you try these out also? I mentioned I was on a budget, because I live in Canada. So, the price you guys pay in the States is doubled by the time it gets to a local store!! Ex: The Sennheisers I tried today were the 490's, they sell for 99.99$ Can. If I purchase from the States, it's 1.5 times after exchange rate plus duty ( at about 30$). Obviously, there has to be a minimum spent to get quality. You get what you pay for. I'm realizing that I will have to save up a little longer to get better quality. Waiting a month or two isn't so bad, headphones last for years. I'd rather spend those years enjoying the sound, rather than wishing I'd spent a little more. Thanks guys, you're helping alot!
