Subject:Master Bus FX bypass
Date:1/19/2011 7:34:19 PM

Hello,

Is there a way for a bus to bypass the master bus fx? I have my vocal tracks routed to it's own bus, but when I render, that bus is missing. How can I route to the master mix, bypassing the master fx? Or, can I send each vocal track to the master, and bypass the master fx?

Thanks a bunch!

Geoff

No, not as you desire.

I have my vocal tracks routed to it's own bus, but when I render, that bus is missing.

The master bus is the render bus, so anything you want to render must go through the master bus.

How can I route to the master mix, bypassing the master fx? Or, can I send each vocal track to the master, and bypass the master fx?

What you should do is set up a bus that has the fx you require on it and the route those tracks and busses you want to run-through those fx. Keep your master bus clean of any fx.

Basically this is setting up a set of sub bus mixes (stems) to allow you to control things the way you want.

You could also set up your FX on an Assignable FX bus, and then "send" from those tracks and busses to the Assignable FX. You have more control this way. It does depend on the type of FX you are using on your master currently. Not all FX lend themselves to a send-return approach. Depends on what you are looking to achieve in your mix.

Thanks! I thought there would be an easier solution, but I guess not. This make sense though, I can just create a bus for all the music tracks (less Soft Synths), and treat it as my "master", then route it through the clean master. Same with the vocals. I'm faily new at mixing and just realizing the use of submixes & busses. Thanks again!

In all my projects I'm using 2 buses for signal consolidation: vocals in one and music on the other. There are the only 2 buses routed to the master bus.

I'm using on the master bus only a compresor or maximizer to avoid clipping.

Best regards

There is no reason that you could not also route your soft synth busses to the same sub bus as you other music tracks.

Grouply, thanks for the post. That's exactly how I want my projects set up.

Peter, how can I route the midi tracks or soft synth bus to a sub bus? Havn't figures that out yet as it's different than the audio tracks. Seems the only option is to the master.

Thanks,
Geoff

A MIDI track can only be routed to a MIDI destination: soft synth or an external MIDI port.

A soft synth bus is just a bus. It can be routed to any existing bus. You can also send from a soft synth bus.

You may want to review th signal routing diagram in the user guide or in the application help.

Nice! Not only does that fix this, but now I can add plug in fx to individual midi tracks via soft synth bus to another bus. For some reason, I thought this was not possible in Acid. Like I said, I'm going from mixing down 30 or so tracks individually through the master bus only, to now learing about sub mixes, busses, etc.

Thanks again for your help. You rock Peter!

Even better, ACID 7 allows you to send from a soft synth bus. This way you can mix MIDI and audio tracks consistently and keep them in the same 'space.'
