10.0c crashes first 2-3 times I open a project

As the title says, every time I open any project in Vegas 10.0c, Vegas crashes building the project on the timeline. After about the third or fourth time, it stops. Is anyone else having this problem?

Update: It just took me 7 times of opening a Vegas project and Vegas crashing before the crashing stopped...

10.0c hasn't crashed, but it often freezes up for 15 - 20 seconds and the timeline playback performance is terrible compared to 10.0b.

This is on a 2-week old editing workstation, and nothing else has been added or changed, just 10.0b to 10.0c. I plan on moving back to 10.0b.

I have a similar issue, but not so extreme. Pretty much every time I start a new instance of Vegas it crashes. The second time around it starts without a problem.

I have a second copy of Vegas on a machine at home, but it doesn't have the same problem.

Still, this might be worth reporting to SONY Support.

I'm running a i7 Quad Core, Win7 x64

I also have a second copy on a machine at home, and it only crashes Vegas on the first startup of Vegas after I start Windows 7 64. I also am running Core i7's on both machines. I do have quite a few programs on both as I am a media producer, but this problem has really escalated since moving to 10.0c.

One thing that may be the problem is that I am starting up projects whose media is on an external eSATA drive every time. Should I move to internal SATA drives for editing? Any thoughts?

Make sure it is not any of your plugins that are causing the crash. I have plugin crashes from NEW BLUE all the time with vegas 10c 32 bit. For some reason the 64 bit does not have the same problems with opening projects that contain NEW BLUE effects. NEW BLUE's authorization and organization of their plugins for vegas 10 is a real mess.

Now that you mention it, it could be plugins. I can't remember if I have NewBlue stuff (haven't used it in ages), but I do have BCC (but the behavior existed before I installed it). I also run off of a Drobo drive, so it could be that the temp files aren't available and it chokes.

Strangely, I also get the occasional "Vegas has stopped working" crash message, but when I'm shutting down Vegas.

In any case, none of these are affecting my ability to edit...they're just odd (so far).

Just a thought, but if your external drive is going to sleep, maybe Vegas is not allowing it time to wake up or is getting some time of error returned when it tries to retrieve?

Just thinking out loud. I have not loaded 10C yet, but running 10B fine on win 7 32 bit.
