Hey all, I have a keyboard and a drum machine that I want to record from in Acid Music 2.0. I have a Sound Blasterlive platium 5.1 sound card and Casio keyboard and drum machine. When I connect the Keyboard (1/4" Output) to the Mic (1/4" input) and record I get a hissing sound in the recording is there a way to fix this without going the whole MIDI route? Any Info will help? and yes I have already tried the gold connection route.. |

I don't record my keyboard much, just for that reason. I beleive it's the difference in impedence that causes this, but haven't found anything that gets rid of the hiss completly. When I do need to record from my keyboard, I run it through a dbx SNR. This is a single ended noise reduction (I think that's what it stands for). It has an adjustable threshold level and I can adjust it to where the noise isn't too bad. Behringer also makes an inexpensive SNR. I'll be interested to know if anyone has a better answer. The noise you're getting might be a ground loop. A ground-lift or a power conditioner would likely fix the issue, or you may want to try plugging your keyboard and computer into different electrical circuits. (Note that different outlets on the wall doesn't necessarily imply different circuits--you may need to check your circuit-breaker to verify which outlets are on which circuits.) HTH, Joel |

Hello, I thought a ground loop came from being on different circuits, you need to be on the same circuit. You could also lift the shield wire at one end of the cable at either jack. There is two types of connections (Balanced and unbalanced) You can find out which ones are used by both the Sond Blaster, and the keyboard, and use that type of cable. Blanced uses tip ring and sleeve and unblanced uses tip and sleeve. I think the Live Drive uses Balanced. See ya, Rockit |

incidentally, if you are recording line level signals, like from a keyboard, you want to use the line input, not the mic input.. |

Yep, Rockit is correct on the specifics of this one, though I think it's still likely be a ground loop (or could be a line vs. mic level issue). Make sure all items that are sharing an audio signal are all being sent to the SAME electrical ground. My bad, but I'm glad I learned something new (or rather unlearned something old that was wrong).
