I'm using Audio Studio 10, build 152. I'm trimming short pieces (20-30 seconds or so) out of longer audio files, and trying to save those short pieces. When I do the save (as MP3...in various configurations), a big chunk of my edited file's end gets lopped off. The length of the missing piece seems to be arbitrary, and can be as long as half the file's length. Not sure what, if anything, I'm doing wrong. I'm in Windows 7 on a Thinkpad t410, 4GB RAM. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks, Dutch |

Off hand, the only thing I can think of is it may be 'snapping to' the grid, marker, region or zero crossing. Try shutting off the "Snap to" functions under "Options> Snapping". Does it behave the same using Cut or Copy / Paste? I don't have Audio Studio, so some of the functions may differ slightly from SF-pro. I'm sure you are aware, the "Trim" function removes all data on either side of the selected waveform,... not to be confused with the "Cut" or "Delete" function which does the opposite: ... Copies and/or removes the selected data, leaving the unselected intact. If nothing else works try a repair install or uninstall -- re-install. Thanks for your help. The problem seems to have fixed itself! Before I posted the problem, I'd tried re-starting and rebooting a couple of times with no luck, but as soon as I posted the problem, it seems to have gone away. If it recurs, I'll certainly give your fix a try. Now... I'm on to a different problem--SF is inserting 30ms or so of silence at head and tail of each MP3 file I'm making. This is a problem, as I'm trying to create loops. I'll repost this one under an appropriate thread name. Thanks again, D |

That short silent space at the head and tail of an MP3 file is normal.. There's no way around it other than to use a different format. So MP3s are useless for continuous loops and such. Search this forum for more info on the caveats of MP3. Try the FLAC format if you need to data compression format w/o gaps. (though I'm not very familiar with the .flac format. Glad your other problem has 'resolved' itself, sometimes re-booting is all that's needed. |

Thanks for the info re MP3s. I hadn't heard of that problem before. I'll look into other formats. |
