Okay. I've heard it time and time again that you just can't separate voice from the rest of your audio. I've come to terms with this horrible fact. But the problem remains...I can't make the voice rise above all the noise. After hours of frustrating effort I've found that my best weapons are EQ and Noise Reduction. But I'm still not getting the results I want. An example of what I'm trying to do is take away the loud and dominating sound of an air conditioner so that we can hear the interviewee's lovely voice. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Maybe someone could point me in the direction of a good book or website? Thank you in advance for your response. |

You might want to try the Sound On Sound website (sospubs.co.uk) - they have back articles online, which I'm pretty sure cover soundproofing as well as cds of all back articles on pdf, or there's a book by David Mellor (not the infamous politician) called something like Building Home Studios (you can look on the sos website for the name). You could try replacing the air conditioning, getting the talker close to the mic, or failing that, as you say, the Noise Reduction plug in, making sure there's a bit of sound before they start speaking. Or the final alternative is to sabotage the air conditioning unit (not that I'm condoning this) and hope it doesn't get to hot. Or hire out some country cottage in the middle of no-where. (-: |
