Subject:ACID Studio won't install or find EZ Drummer

Believing Sony telling me that ACID Studio and EZ Drummer were a "dynamic duo", I bought the two programs from Sony.

I installed Sony ACID, and installed all the various bits I was told to download from Toon Tracks for EZ Drummer.

But nowhere can I find how to access EZ Drummer through ACID - it doesn't appear in my list of soft synths, or any other plug ins.

So I scanned for plug ins, using the plug in manager, as the ACID help suggested. After about 5 minutes, ACID crashed completely.

I have uninstalled everything, and reinstalled ACID, but now it won't load - instead it tries (unsuccessfully) for about 5 minutes to scan for and load *every* dll file on my whole computer!!

Any ideas please how I can fix this??

It was a very bad idea to set it to do this, as you have discovered. You should set it only to scan the folder (or folders) where your VST Plugin dlls are located - traditionally this would be C:\Program files\Vstplugins\. If you set it to scan the entire system then (a) it will take forever, and (b) there is a good chance that it will find a dll that will crash the system before Acid even starts.

You can find Sony's recommended solution for your problem in the Knowledgebase here.

Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for your reply - that link was exactly the thing I needed, to delete ACID's "dll plugin list cache". I've now re-installed ACID Studio from fresh again, works fine. I've also now re-installed EZ Drummer from fresh, using a "custom" install to load the program into the C:\...\ApplData\Sony... Acid\MIDI Drivers directory ... so EZ Drummer's dll is now in there, where ACID Studio's own soft synth is ... and saved the sound sample files to my other hard disk. Fingers crossed, it all seems to work now, I'll just have to start learning how to use it!

Thanks again, Giles.
