I have a Compaq Presario 5190 and can't record on Sound Forge 4.5 at all. I selected my sound card etc. and when I push the record button the gray page in the background is stationary and when I hit playback it shows just the white with no sound blotches but the bar on the graph is moving, just no sound. Has anyone
out there made a Sound Forge for dummies??? I need one.!!! Thanks Ed Echels

Open the Windows volume control by double clicking the yellow speaker icon by your computer's clock. Once the play control window comes up, go to the Options menu and select "Properties". Select "Recording" under "Adjust Volume For" and where it says "Show the Following Volume Controls", make sure everything is selected. Now click "OK" and you will get a recording control window. Under each volume control is a box marked "Select". Make sure that the one under the desired source (microphone, CD, Line In, etc.) is selected and that the volume is turned up about three quarters of the way. If the music is too loud or quiet when you record it, you can come back to this window and adjust the volume as necessary.
