I just upgraded to Windows 2000, but I did see this problem once before in WinME. Last time it wasn't a big deal, I could easily reconstruct the Acid file. However, this time that will be difficult.

Here's what I did. I copied the entire directory (including all my loops and files) from one drive to the another (from C to D). Before reformatting the C drive, I removed the D drive. Installed Windows 2000. Plugged the D drive back in. Recognized... no problems so far.

No when I click on the Acid file (or when I open it from Acid), I get this error message:

"An error occured when loading the project file allkinds.acd. The item was not found."

And that's all. No details, nothing... just an OK button and the project doesn't load.

The first time this happened, it had nothing to do with Windows 2000, but I did copy the project from one drive to another. Could it be looking for a C: path and where it should be a D: path?

Also installed is Vegas Audio 2.0 and Sound Forge 5.0.

Thanks for your help.

Keith

(PS I tried changing my sound card option to "Windows Classic Wave Driver" and it didn't help. As a matter of fact, I wasn't allowed to change my Default Audio Playback Device, but my sound card was listed, but just greyed out).

Get this... I copied the project back to drive C, making sure that the relative path was exactly like it was when it was originally on drive C. Now it worked!

So either a) this is a bug (because it never happened to me with 2.0), or b) one should always save the entire project with embedded wav files instead of copying the files in Explorer.

Acid 1 & 2 project files keep only paths to their files unless you save with embedded audio, so moving the wave files will make it impossible for Acid to find them. This is normal functioning (which is why there's the embedded file option).

I presume (though I haven't really looked at it much) that Acid 3 does the same.
